Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo adds, now this has made the children to know and understand that if you go to the traditional schools you always search for job unlike the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVET). I will entreat every Ghanaian student to take TVET serious because it helps a lot.

‘At least if you go into TVET, you can do something for self sustainance. You will become self employer and employ other people,’ she stressed.

‘There therefore, TVET is the best solution to eradicate poverty from the country as compared to the traditional second cycle institutions,’ said Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo.

Hon. Deputy Minister of Education brought these to light when she toured the WASSCE centers in the region to monitor how the students are coping with the ongoing National Board of Professional And Technical Examination (NABTEX) amid Covid – 19 pandemic.

These students are writing 5 core subjects which include English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, Integrated Science and Technology attached to their 4 elective subjects.

Hon. Gifty Ampofo continue that, the number of the students enrolled on TVET from 2017 keeps on increasing. This year 2020 is left with less than 200 students to hit 26,000 candidates a situation she describes as encouraging.

She was accompanied by the Executive Secretary for NABTEX Mrs. Sheila Naa Boamah and the Board Chair for NABTEX Mr. Kwasi Agyeman. The purpose of this tour is to monitor whether the students are adhering to the Covid – 19 protocols.

They visited the following Schools’, Koforidua Technical Institute, St. Paul Technical – Kukurantumi, Liberty Vocational Institute – Koforidua and Christian Heritage – Koforidua.
