These customs seek divine guidance and protection for the Akuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III.

Fida Fofie is observed annually for the Akuapehene exactly one week after the Akuapem Odwira festival. The ritual officially signifies that the people of Akuapem can begin consuming the newly harvested yam.

This year’s Odwira festival marked a historic milestone as Akuapemman celebrated its 200th anniversary since the tradition’s inception in 1826. The colorful event drew numerous dignitaries to Akropong, including Ghana’s former President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Following the Fofie celebration, the Akrahenes (Soul Chiefs) and selected Okoman elders in Akuapem dined with the Akuapehene to reaffirm their loyalty and support for his ongoing reign.

During a briefing with journalists, Nana Kwame Donkor Kissiedu highlighted that the Fofie observation is vital for honoring the forefathers who fought for the freedom of Akuapemman during the Katamanso war.

The Akrahene of Akuapem also used the event to offer prayers, seeking divine grace, blessings, guidance, protection, and long life for Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, the overlord of the Akuapem Traditional Council.

Furthermore, Nana Kwame Kissiedu selected specific chiefs, Queen Mothers, and Okoman elders to join in offering collective prayers for the success of the Akuapemhene’s reign.

Nana Kissiedu expressed his gratitude to the people of Akuapem, particularly the youth, for their record-breaking attendance at this year’s Fida Fofie celebration.

He further urged all citizens of Akuapem to unite and support the Akuapehene in their shared mission to develop and advance Akuapemman.

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Mr. Awuku, stated that passing the Older Persons Bill will deter individuals from falsely accusing the elderly of witchcraft.

He emphasized that legal accountability will safeguard the freedom and longevity of older citizens, describing living past 100 years as a blessing.

Meanwhile, Rev. Professor Joseph Osafo, Director of the University of Ghana’s Center for Ageing Studies, expressed deep disappointment in Parliament.

Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, Osafo highlighted that the bill has languished in Parliament for 16 years, leaving the aged vulnerable to ongoing social stigmatization.

According to Prof. Osafo, statistics indicate that over 57% of elderly women bear the brunt of hardship in the country, often facing safety risks due to being accused of witchcraft.

He noted that developed nations actively support their aging populations to promote longevity because they deeply value them.

Prof. Osafo joined Sammi Awuku in making an urgent appeal to Parliament to expedite the passage of a bill aimed at safeguarding the lives of older citizens.

To mark the 62nd birthday of the late legendary music star, Charles Kwadwo Fosu (popularly known as Daddy Lumba), his family has reached out to support children in need.

His wife, Mrs. Priscilla Fosu (affectionately called Odo Broni), donated a generous, undisclosed amount of money to the Child Health Department at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the Greater Accra Region.

The donation, which took place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, provided vital support to over 60 children currently receiving medical treatment.
The special presentation was made on behalf of the family by a dedicated delegation.

Ultimately, cash donations were presented to 62 children undergoing treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Child Health Daycare Oncology Unit.

This kind gesture continues the legacy of the beloved music icon by bringing hope and relief to young patients and their families.

She commended the fans of the late legend for their overwhelming support in bringing the initiative to life.

Evelyn Kumah, the Head of the Child Health Department and Chief Nursing Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed profound appreciation to Odo Broni and her team for their kind gesture.

On behalf of the nurses and beneficiaries, Miss Wendy Mensah, Head of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), took the opportunity to thank Mrs. Fosu and her team for their excellent work, encouraging them to sustain the initiative.

Several beneficiaries, some of whom had traveled from the Northern, Western, and Central Regions, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the team.

The Eastern Regional branch of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) completed a two-day training workshop for its personnel on the newly launched Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS).

The program took place from Tuesday, September 29, to Wednesday, September 30, at the regional headquarters in Effiduase, within the New Juaben North Municipality.

This new initiative is designed to modernize and improve emergency response and fire safety services for private residences, hotels, academic institutions, industries, and public facilities.

Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, the Deputy Eastern Regional Fire Commander, Divisional Officer 1 (DO I) George Michael Kroda explained that public institutions across the country are transitioning to paperless systems.

This digital transformation aims to generate revenue electronically, assisting the central government in mobilizing the necessary funds to run and manage the country. This initiative is being implemented through the AFCAS Project.

Consequently, DO I George Kroda noted that all clients applying for a fire certificate will soon complete the entire process online. This includes digital payment for services, a move designed to eliminate the financial leakages and corruption often associated with manual operations.

He further stated that a shortcode will be rolled out in the near future. This will allow clients to conveniently make payments via mobile devices when applying for services through their official portal.

He indicated that they have educated their clients about this new system, which will be operational soon. In fact, it will help ease the burden of physically walking to various fire stations to seek a fire certificate for their work.

DOI Korda then pleaded with the general public to wholeheartedly accept the AFCAS Project, noting that it will help the government generate revenue for other economic activities to develop the country.

According to party officials, Bravo, who is currently campaigning for the constituency’s Chairmanship seat, alleged during a recent meeting with branch executives that the government extorts GH¢35,000 from the graduated nursing and teacher trainees of the party before granting them employment.

The Akyem Asafo Unit Committee Member for the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Eric Tettey, has expressed deep concern over the severe lack of infrastructure projects in the area.

According to Tettey, Akyem Asafo stands out as one of the fastest-growing communities within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council. However, its physical and infrastructural development has completely stalled.

Tettey highlighted that their roads have deteriorated into a deplorable state. He noted that community leaders have made numerous appeals to both past and current administrations to address the issue, but all efforts have proven futile.

He pointed out a dangerous stretch of road between the Akyem Asafo Senior High School and Akokoo junction, where frequent vehicular accidents have claimed many lives. “Vehicles are crashing and killing many people on this specific stretch,”

Tettey lamented. “We have repeatedly appealed for a speed ramp to curb these tragic accidents and slow down traffic, but nobody seems to care.”

Out of deep frustration, he highlighted that residents feel completely abandoned by both the central government and the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly.

He described the situation as highly distressing, noting that basic infrastructure in the community has broken down entirely.

Capitalizing on the moment, the Akyem Asafo Unit Committee Member urgently appealed to the government to intervene. He demanded immediate action to repair their deteriorating road networks and construct vital speed ramps across known accident-prone zones to save lives.
