The Member of Parliament for the Fanteakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, Kwame Appiah Kodua, has stepped forward with vital support for 150 local graduates who recently sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This impactful initiative is carefully designed to ensure a smooth transition into Senior High School (SHS) by easing the financial burden on families and providing students with essential prospectus supplies.

The distribution of items was tailored to meet the specific needs of both boarding and day students.

Boarding students received a comprehensive package consisting of a plastic chop box, a durable school bag, a student mattress, and 12 exercise books.

While the Day students were equipped with a school bag and 12 exercise books to kickstart their academic year.

By empowering these youth, the MP emphasizes that investing directly in students’ basic educational needs rather than using education as a political tool is what truly secures Ghana’s future development.

Speaking at an event in Begoro-Oheneseho on Friday, August 11, Kwame Appiah Kodua reaffirmed his dedication to advancing education by promising that all children in Fanteakwa North will have access to secondary-cycle education.

He strongly cautioned against politicizing the educational sector, stating that using education for political gain hinders a nation’s development and harms the career prospects of its citizens.

To encourage academic excellence, Kodua also announced tertiary-level scholarships for students who achieve outstanding results in their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Beneficiaries were advised by Nana Ofori Ameyaw, the Begoro Apagyahen, to shun negative peer influences and drug abuse. He further charged them to study diligently and play an active role in advancing the Begoro community.

The Member of Parliament for the Atiwa East constituency in the Eastern Region, Abena Osei-Asare, has expressed her sympathies to the candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but did not pass or secure placement.

She described the situation as deeply concerning, stating that the high number of failing students is unacceptable and requires urgent national attention.

Mrs. Osei-Asare called on the Government and the Ministry of Education to urgently consider the future of the 142,000 students who failed the examination, as well as the 54,985 candidates who missed out on Senior High School (SHS) placement. She urged immediate intervention to address the issue and ensure these students are successfully enrolled.

At the Anyinam Roman Catholic School on Friday, September 11,  the Atiwa East Member of Parliament (MP) announced a vital support initiative for 200 BECE graduates. To ensure a smooth transition into Senior High School, she provided the students with essential prospectus supplies.

The distributed relief packages contained key schooling items, including trunks and chop boxes, student mattresses, and essential provisions.

To further alleviate the financial burden on the parents of these brilliant but needy students, the MP also gifted GH₵1,000.00 to every student to cover their transportation costs to their respective schools.

Abena Osei Asare, who also serves as the Chairperson for the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, noted that many families are currently facing hardships due to these educational expenses.

She then questioned the ruling government’s motives, asking, “Is it because the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government wanted to abort the double-track system  in 2027, which is why they are prematurely ending the future careers of these innocent children at this stage?”

Several parents of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their MP for her generous gesture.

They noted that the support came at the perfect time, as they were deeply concerned about how to afford sending their children back to school. They emphasized that this initiative would significantly ease their financial burdens.

“We never expected that after donating all these school items to our children, she would also add GH₵1,000.00. We pray that God continues to bless and protect her,” the parents said.

Furthermore, Madam Pearl Acquah, the District Education Director for the Atiwa East District Assembly, advised the students to steer clear of social vices that could jeopardize their future. Instead, she urged them to focus heavily on their studies and make the best use of their learning materials to build a successful life.

The Akyem Apapamhene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, Okogyeaman Apagya Ofori, has officially installed twelve new sub-divisional Chiefs and Queen Mothers.

The newly appointed leaders, consisting of six chiefs and six queen mothers, have been explicitly tasked with spearheading critical infrastructure and development projects across the community.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Okogyeaman Fie on Saturday, September 12, 2026, Osabarima Ofori urged the new leaders to ground their reigns in spiritual devotion for lasting success.

He further implored them to foster absolute unity among their people, driving Apapamman forward to become one of the most prosperous and admired communities in Okyeman.

Okogyeaman Ofori announced that he will celebrate his 10th anniversary in 2027. Ahead of this milestone, he challenged the 12 newly installed Chiefs and Queen Mothers to work diligently toward transforming the community.

To ensure the community has an official venue for hosting events, he pledged to complete the Apapam event center before next year.

Okogyeaman Apagya Ofori congratulated the new leaders on their roles. He advised them to remain humble and to serve the people of Apapam with integrity and respect.

Nana Abena Fosua  Asante, the newly installed Mawerehemaa (Queen Mother), offered words of wisdom by encouraging young people to use their hands to build meaningful lives rather than chasing fast money.

She noted a troubling shift from the long lives of their forefathers, warning that many young people today are dying prematurely due to a reckless desire to become wealthier than their parents.

Barima Boampong Darkwaning II, the Chief of Akyem Asafo within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, has stated that it is unfair for a Chief or a Queen Mother to abandon their communities for extended periods to live overseas.

According to him, while traditional leaders are not strictly forbidden from traveling abroad for work, they must always remember that they have a community at home relying on their leadership and care.

Barima Darkwaning II emphasized that individuals should not claim the title of a traditional leader if they remain abroad for long stretches of time without returning home to spearhead development projects for their people.

He mentioned that visionary leaders do not behave this way because the title of chief carries great responsibility. Moving abroad and calling yourself a chief without fulfilling your traditional duties simply makes you an entertainer.

Barima Boampong Darkwaning II shared these thoughts at the Akyem Asafo Palace during the installation of Akosua Gyamfua as the community’s new Akyempemhemaa on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

“As the newly installed Akyem Asafo Akyempemhemaa, your top priority must be developing this community,” he urged her. “Do not travel abroad for extended periods and turn your back on the people of Akyem Asafoman.”

He emphasized that Chiefs and Queen Mothers are key drivers of development. Consequently, traditional leaders living abroad should return home periodically to invest in their local communities and drive grassroots transformation.

The Chief of Akyem Asafo believes this local initiative will help ease the financial and developmental burden on the central government.

Additionally, Barima Boampong Darkwaning II advised Nana Akosua Gyamfua to remain humble and respectful toward his cabinet. He noted that this cooperation would allow the cabinet to guide her effectively, ensuring a successful reign as the Akyempemhemaa of Akyem Asafo.

In a dedicated effort to foster economic independence and inclusivity, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Suhum Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Lydia Sarah Ohenewaa, has presented essential start-up items and resources to 52 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the municipality.

The initiative is designed to provide recipients with the sustainable means to build their own livelihoods, reduce economic vulnerability, and achieve long-term self-reliance.

The distributed items were Fufu pounding machines, pepper grinding machines, Popcorn machines, chest freezers, hand dryers, and bags of charcoal. In addition to the entrepreneurial tools, the MCE presented four laptops to four students with disabilities to directly assist them with their academic studies and digital literacy.

Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony held at the Suhum main lorry station on Wednesday, September 9,  Lydia Sarah Ohenewaa emphasized that disability does not mean inability. She noted that individuals living with disabilities possess the same inherent qualities, talents, and potential as anyone else.

The MCE urged the recipients to take pride in their identities and achievements, highly praising their invaluable and amazing contributions to the overall development of the country.

According to her, President John Dramani Mahama’s love for PWDs is beyond imagination, hence increasing the Assembly’s Disability Common Fund from 3% to 5% to purchase their preferred items so they can sell the items received and use the proceeds to feed themselves, to make their life easier.

Lydia Ohenewaa further said that most of the physically challenged persons were not born with it, but certain circumstances made them who they are today, and nobody should underestimate their potential; rather, we should accept and should love them in society since nobody can predict what may happen to us in the near future.

The Suhum MCE used one stone to kill two birds by commissioning a corn-milling shop for the PWDs at the Suhum event park. She pleaded with the residents of Suhum to patronize them to enable them to earn some income to take care of themselves.

The Chairperson of the Suhum Disability Federation, Isaac Tettheh, highlighted that people with disabilities face significant livelihood challenges because their conditions often deter employers from hiring them.

Consequently, the federation proposed that the government allocate a 5 percent employment quota across all public sectors to help them achieve financial independence, though this request has so far been unsuccessful.

Tettheh strongly criticized the lack of progress, calling on the government to reconsider the proposal and provide employment opportunities that allow individuals with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Meanwhile, several beneficiaries speaking to journalists expressed their appreciation to the government for supporting their welfare and providing impactful resources to improve their lives.

The chairperson of the program, Nana Arko-Bensua, the Suhumhemaa, praised the government for introducing such a life-changing initiative for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district.

She advised beneficiaries to make good use of the items to ensure the government’s investment does not go to waste.

Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, an aspiring National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stressed the need for a unifying national youth leader to bring everyone on board and secure victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 general elections.

Entering the contest with serious intent and boldness, she aims to wrestle power back from the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in 2028.

The NPP is preparing to elect its next crop of national executives at its upcoming conference, scheduled for October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The elected officials will steer the party’s strategic affairs until 2030.

Reflecting on the party’s political defeat in 2024, Oye Bram-Larbi attributed the loss to a fundamental failure in properly mobilizing and engaging every single eligible Ghanaian voter to keep the NPP in governance. Her current strategy focuses heavily on extensive grassroots mobilization to establish a rock-solid foundation for victory in 2028.

“To secure victory for the NPP in 2028, youth delegates must choose a leader who is vibrant, courageous, and a proven strategist,” she added.

Vera Bram-Larbi emphasized that grassroots mobilization, especially targeting floating voters, is key to making Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential vision a reality.

Standing tall among her competitors, Bram-Larbi declared herself the only candidate equipped with the qualities needed to lead NPP national youth toward a 2028 triumph.

She made these remarks in Koforidua on Tuesday, September 8, following an engagement with the youth wings from the New Juaben North, New Juaben South, Suhum, and Abuakwa North constituencies. During the meeting, she urged them to support her candidacy on October 3 to become the party’s next national youth leader.

Vera Oye Bram-Larbi also used the opportunity to appeal to NPP Youth Wings across all 276 constituencies nationwide to vote for her, emphasizing that she is ready to deliver results for the party in 2028.

Samuel Osei Sarkodie (SOS), NPP Eastern Regional Youth Organizer, stated that their party urgently needs a strategic leader capable of unifying and mobilizing the grassroots base for the 2028 general elections.

Highlighting Ghana’s democratic resilience, Sarkodie pointed out that in both the 2016 and 2024 elections, the incumbent parties respected the voice of the electorate rather than abusing state security apparatuses to alter election outcomes.

“Therefore, the National Youth Organizer of our party should be someone who can work tirelessly for the NPP to win the 2028 election overwhelmingly,” SOS stated.

On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency Youth Organizers and their Deputies from the Eastern Region paid a courtesy visit to their newly elected Regional Youth Organizer, Samuel Osei Sarkodie, widely known as SOS. The gathering took place at his private residence in Asokore Kumaa, within the New Juaben North Municipality.

The historic visit served to officially congratulate SOS and present him with a citation celebrating his resounding victory in the recent regional executives’ election held in Asamankese on August 15, 2026. The election saw SOS secure 350 votes, confirming his leadership mandate through 2030.

Addressing the gathering, SOS expressed his profound gratitude to everyone who traveled from near and far to show their support.

He pledged to utilize his available resources to strengthen and empower the NPP youth wings moving forward.

Yaw Asiedu Boadu, the Abusuapanin of the Anoo Royal family in Koforidua (New Juaben South Municipal Assembly, Eastern Region), has strongly denied claims that Nana Dwomoh Brobbey, the CEO of Capital View Hotel, masterminded the recent demolition of the Anoo family house.

Abusuapanin Yaw Boadu explicitly clarified that he personally ordered the demolition, emphasizing that Nana Brobbey had absolutely no involvement in or knowledge of the operation, which took place in early September.

Meanwhile, some members of the Oyoko Royal Family in Koforidua have countered this action, asserting ownership over the demolished property and stating that the Anoo Royal Family had no legal right to tear it down.

Abusuapanin Yaw Asiedu Boadu stated that they have taken the matter to the Koforidua High Court, which has repeatedly ruled in their favor since the 1990s. Given this consistent legal backing, he questioned why the Oyoko Royal Family continues to claim ownership of the property.

He explained that the demolition aligns with the Koforidua High Court’s ruling, noting that the existing structure is ancient and poses a safety risk to its occupants. Consequently, the building is being torn down to clear the way for a modern redevelopment.

He made this known at a press conference held in Koforidua on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Abusuapanin Yaw Asiedu Boadu emphasized that he followed all proper legal channels to demolish his own family house. He added that anyone who feels aggrieved by this action is welcome to challenge his decision in court.


On his part, the CEO of Capital View Hotel and Anoo royal family member, Nana Dwomoh Brobbey, has expressed shock after being bashed online for an issue he claims to know nothing about.

He stated that the situation is a deliberate attempt by certain individuals in Koforidua to tarnish his hard-earned reputation and collapse his businesses, declaring that their efforts will fail.

“I have lived in harmony with the people of Koforidua for over five decades, and I would not engage in any activity that would cause harm to someone,” Brobbey stated.

He then advised journalists, particularly vloggers, to thoroughly cross-check their facts before publishing stories that could destroy someone’s reputation.

I extended my deepest condolences to the family, praying that God strengthens them and keeps them united during this difficult time.

I concluded the day by engaging with the Polling Station and Electoral Area Executives of Moseaso, Asamang-Tamfoe, and Anyinam.

During the meeting, I officially introduced all the Appointed Executives and urged them to discharge their mandates with dedication.

This educational intervention by the MCE aims to significantly uplift academic standards across the Suhum Municipality. By easing the financial burden on parents, the initiative ensures that brilliant yet underprivileged students are not denied the opportunity to advance to secondary education due to financial constraints.

While she initially planned to assist 500 students, she increased the number to 650 following heartfelt appeals from some parents in the surrounding villages.

To ensure long-term impact, she has signed a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SOL Foundation. This partnership guarantees ongoing educational support over the next decade to give every child in the area access to second-cycle education.

This year’s initiative marks a significant increase from last year, when 350 students received support. Sarah Ohenewaa reiterated that these efforts align with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s core commitment to making quality education accessible and attractive to every Ghanaian child.

“Some parents of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the MCE and SOL Foundation for their kind gesture.

According to them, the gesture came at the right time because they were thinking about how to get their wards, the prospectuses, to go to school, stressing these move will reduce some burden of them.”

The Suhumhene, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi Opare, has commended Lydia Sarah Ohenewaa for launching a beneficial initiative tailored for parents in Suhum. He noted that this year’s program far exceeded his expectations.
