The Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in New Juaben South, Eastern Region, Charles Oseipoku Boakye, has embarked on an electoral area visitation to seek re-election ahead of the constituency executive election slated for July 11 and 12, 2026.

The visitation forms part of his campaign strategy to reorganize and unite the party’s grassroots base, sell his vision, and outline what he intends to do for party members if given the mandate by delegates to continue serving as Chairman.

“In my last four years in office, I have achieved many successes in playing a key role in supporting my Member of Parliament, Michael Okere Baafi, and the former Municipal Chief Executive of the New Juaben South Municipality, Isaac Apau Gyasi, to champion numerous infrastructure projects for the good people of New Juaben South when the NPP was in power,” he cited.

Oseipoku Boakye further stated that during the Presidential Primary, while other constituency chairmen were hesitant to declare their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the region, he stood out and worked tirelessly to ensure Dr. Bawumia won convincingly in his constituency.

“When I became the Chairman of the party in 2022, I realized that there was bitterness among some party members, and I had to put in place measures to unify them, and today, there is peace in the NPP in New Juaben South,” he recounted.

He believes that if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia wins the 2028 election, things will change in the country, and Koforidua will see more developmental projects because of the relationship he [Oseipoku Boakye] has with him; therefore, urging Ghanaians to give him the opportunity to become the next President of Ghana.

He added that one term deserves another, thus pleading with the New Juaben South NPP delegates to look at what he has done in the past 4 years and re-elect him to continue his good works.

The Aspiring 1st Vice Chairperson on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Fanteakwa South Constituency of the Eastern Region, Dora Obenewaa, has said that she would make history in the upcoming constituency executive election slated for July 11 and 12, 2026.

According to her, when she was the Women’s Organizer for the constituency, she initiated numerous programs that positively impacted many lives, and she aims to continue this work if she becomes the next 1st Vice Chairperson.

Dora Obenewaa revealed that most women don’t contest for such positions in the various political parties in the country because men have been occupying these positions for decades, but she is here to change the narrative in the NPP by defeating them to set a new record.

Madam Obenewaa further said that, currently, every NPP member is looking forward to coming together, reorganizing, and positioning themselves well and putting in much effort to recapture power from their main contender, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in 2028.

Dora Obenewaa told Kontihen Kofi Oboh that women in their party will play a major role in winning the 2028 elections, hence vying for the 1st Chairperson position to mobilize them to work hand in hand to clinch victory from the NDC.

Furthermore, Madam Obenewaa said that when a political party goes into opposition, many people criticize them, but when they correct their wrongs and form a formidable team and work hard, they clinch power again; therefore, it is not true that the NPP is unattractive to Ghanaians.

She stated that for NPP to secure power in 2028 wouldn’t come on a silver platter; rather, it requires hard work, sacrifice, determination, and leaders who can champion a new strategy to make their dream become reality to enable them to defeat the NDC.

Madam Obenewaa used the occasion to plead with the Fanteakwa South NPP delegates to give her the nod to become the next 1st Vice Chairperson of the party in Fanteakwa South and she will collaborate with other elected executives to win power for the NPP in 2028.

Ebenezer Tettey, the husband of Dora Obenewaa, also said that when his wife informed him about her decision to contest for the 1st Vice Chairperson position in the Fanteakwa South constituency, he didn’t say anything because he knew what she was capable of, and he had to support her to go for the ultimate.

Mr. Tettey then advised men to encourage and support their wives when seeking positions because it is not easy for women to compete with men in the same race, and he believes his wife will emerge victorious after the election.

The Akuapem North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, on Friday, June 12, 2026,  celebrate the World Day against Child Labour at Akropong under the theme: “Red Card To Child Labour: Fair Play For Children, Decent Work For Adults In Akuapem North.”

Speaking at the program, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, John Evans Kumordzi, mentioned that children are not required to engage in hard labour, but rather they are meant to be in school, learning, among others, and prepare themselves to become responsible citizens as he had dreamed of becoming in the future.

“However, many children continue to engage in activities that expose them to physical, emotional, and psychological harm, while denying them the opportunity to reach their full potential.

“As a Municipal Assembly, we recognize that investing in children is the most important investment we can make for the future of Akuapem North and Ghana as a whole,” he said.

Mr. Kumordzi stated that they are committed to creating an enabling environment where every child will have access to quality education and adequate protection.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s readiness to support initiatives that promote skills development, entrepreneurship, job creation, and social protection programmes to improve household incomes and reduce the vulnerabilities that fuel child labour. The Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly

On his part, the Member of Parliament for the constituency,  Sammi Awuku said that many Ghanaians are being affected by the dire consequences of economic hardship, with the cost of living on the rise, compelling children to take on difficult jobs in their efforts to support their parents.

“While appreciating these realities, we must also agree that the answer cannot be at the expense of a child’s future,” he opined.

The MP then encouraged parents and guardians not to relent in their responsibilities.

“We must continue to work hard, make sacrifices, and provide for our families to the best of our ability. Our children should not be forced to carry burdens that belong to adults. Rather, we must allow them to focus on their education and personal development so that they can grow into responsible adults who will one day contribute positively to society and support their families in return.

“Every child in Akuapem North deserves the opportunity to learn, to dream, and to develop their God-given talents. Whether that child lives in Akropong, Mampong, Aburi, Larteh, Tutu, or any other community, they deserve a fair chance in life,” noted Sammi Awuku.

Furthermore, Rebecca Tetteh, the Program Head, Child and Family Welfare at the Department of Social Welfare, Eastern Regional Directorate, added that this year’s theme speaks clearly to the collective responsibility, and it reminds us that child labour is not just a violation of children’s rights; it is also a threat to their survival, protection, development, education, dignity, and future opportunities.

She indicated that the Department remains committed to promoting the protection and welfare of every child in Ghana.

“Through collaboration with government agencies, development partners, traditional authorities, community leaders, schools, and families, we continue to support interventions aimed at preventing child labour, strengthening child protection systems, and providing support services for vulnerable children and families,” she added.

The Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Ghana Foundation, has refurbished and repaired damaged medical equipment at the Eastern Regional Hospital as part of its annual ’21-Day Yellow Care’ initiative held in June.

The refurbished and repaired medical equipment includes beds, trolleys, drip stands, and wheelchairs, among others.

The theme for the Y’ello Care 2026 is: “Expanding equitable health for every community: strengthening access to quality, preventative, and responsive healthcare services for underserved and remote populations.”

Speaking to Journalists, Ransford Gyan, the MTN Area Sales Manager for Eastern, Oti, and Volta Regions, mentioned that the motive behind the Foundation’s 21-Day Yellow Care was to play its shared responsibilities in addressing the ‘No-Bed Syndrome’ in the various Teaching Hospitals in the country.

He noted that the same event is taking place in both the Oti and the Volta Regions to enable the beneficiary hospitals to provide quality health services to their patients.

Mr. Gyan further stated that there would be a massive health screening across all 16 regions in the country, and indicated that the Nkurakan community would hold the Eastern Regional exercise because the health and well-being of Ghanaians are one of their topmost priorities.

“We also understand that anything worth doing must be done intentionally. Y’ello Care is one of the things that we do intentionally to remind ourselves of the responsibility placed on us as people who are privileged in many ways to give back to communities that need us to do so,” he noted.

He added that it is also a reminder that it is these seemingly small things that they have been doing over 19 years that have kept MTN relevant in the business sector for the past 30 years. 

Mr. Gyan, according to him, these gestures will guarantee their longevity into the future as they seek to provide solutions for Africa and Ghana’s progress.

He believes that this 21-Day Yellow Care is a good initiative because it is disgusting that someone would lose a family member as a result of the shortage of hospital beds, whereby there are a lot of broken-down beds that could be fixed to save people’s lives.

He then called on other institutions, NGOs, and philanthropists to emulate them so that they could eradicate the ‘No-Bed Syndrome’ situation in the country to enhance the health sector.

It is worthy to know that the MTN Ghana Foundation, through its 21-Day Yellow Care initiative, has targeted to refurbish and repair over 10,000 pieces of medical equipment across selected hospitals nationwide before the end of June, 2026.

The Queen Mother of Osenase in the Eastern Region, Obaapanin Akyeampomah, has announced at a press conference held at the Osenase Palace that the community’s stool remains vacant.

She explained that when a stool becomes vacant, it is the responsibility of the Queen Mother and the Head of the Aduana Royal Family to install a new Chief to succeed the late Chief. However, their situation is different.

In Ghana, no one can be installed as Chief until the late Chief has been given a befitting burial. In the case of Osenase, the late Chief has not yet been buried; however, someone has paraded himself as Chief of the area, an act she described as against tradition.

According to Obaapanin Akyeampomah, who was installed as Queen Mother in 1999, she had never witnessed a Chief being installed at 1:00 AM in the middle of the night, which demonstrates the illegality of the purported installation.

She stressed that the community will not recognize or tolerate such a person and further noted that the self-proclaimed Chief is causing unrest in the area, but the people of Osenase will not retaliate to protect the community’s image.

Setting the record straight, she declared that Osenase currently has no Chief and urged residents to remain calm as measures are being put in place to install a legitimate leader to oversee the affairs of the community.

Obaapanin Akyeampomah called on President John Dramani Mahama, Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, the National House of Chiefs, and the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to call the self-styled Chief to order, so that peace and harmony can prevail to prevent any unforeseen tragedy.

The Green Diversity Africa, on Friday, June 5, 2026, joined the world in commemorating the year’s Environment Day at Akyem Nkroso in the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region.

The celebration was held under the theme “A Global Call For Climate Action.”

The leadership of Green Diversity Africa, along with opinion leaders, elders, residents, and traditional leaders of the community, planted 1,500 tree seedlings, aiming to restore the degraded lands and forest reserves to their original state, as well as the rivers in the area.

Speaking to Journalists, the Executive Director of Green Diversity Africa, Hobson Agyapong, mentioned that trees play a crucial role in the lives of every human being, which is why it is a shared responsibility of everybody to cultivate a habit of planting trees to protect the environment.

According to him, our forefathers knew the numerous benefits human beings gain from the trees, which motivated them to plant them in the forest reserves and preserve them, but cited the destruction of these same forest reserves and water bodies due to the selfishness of some individuals.

Mr. Agyapong continues that growing up, there was at least a tree in every household where residents sit to receive natural air.

“Today, we claim we are in a civilized world, but those who call themselves elite in the various communities in Ghana, when they build a house, they tile the entire compound without planting a single tree to save their lives, and this demonstrates that their knowledge about the importance of trees is very weak and it is pathetic,” he noted.

“The Chinese take care of their water bodies and come to Ghana to pollute ours, and it’s about time Ghanaians change their behavior, protect the environment, and keep it safe for future generations.”

Mr. Agyapong and his team used the occasion to also launch the Okyeman Riparian Buffer Restoration and Agroforestry Project (OBRAPA).

On his part, the Nkrosohene, Osaberima Danso Abiam Ofori, indicated that trees naturally heal many diseases, so in the past, it was not common to hear someone complaining of sickness because of the forest reserves and the existence of other trees within communities.

“During that time, you’re afraid to enter the forest reserves and cut down the trees, and it helps a lot of people to live long, but currently, the chainsaw operators have destroyed them, and their activities are causing harm to the country,” he said.

Osabarima Abiam Ofori then directed all chainsaw operators in his community to participate in the tree planting initiative to replace trees that have been cut down by their illegal practices, warning that they will face his wrath if they fail to oblige his instructions.

The Eastern Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Isaac Sintim, has stated that the region aims to plant one million two hundred thousand (1,200,000) tree seedlings in support of the Tree for Life Ghana Day initiative.

Meanwhile, the entire country is expected to plant 30 million trees on Friday, June 5, 2026, to augment existing tree cover. Some of the trees expected to be planted include mahogany, sapele, and ofram, among others.

Mr. Sintim, speaking to KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, disclosed that the commission has enough economic trees, such as mango, coconut, and avocado, available for distribution on the day.

Speaking further, he noted that 1,200,000 seedlings have been distributed to all Forestry Commission offices in the region, including Begoro, Kyebi, Donkorkrom, Mpraeso, Somanya, Kade, Oda, and the regional office in Koforidua, located on the Akwadum stretch.

“So anyone who needs some of the seedlings can walk into the aforementioned offices and collect some for planting,” he indicated.

The Tree for Life project forms part of the government’s efforts to restore degraded lands and forest reserves to their original state.

The Eastern Regional Forestry Commission Manager praised Ghanaians for embracing the initiative over the years and urged them to demonstrate the same level of commitment and enthusiasm by participating in Friday’s exercise to ensure its success.

He said trees contribute significantly to the well-being of mankind, which is why people must cultivate the habit of planting trees regularly to help save lives.

“We need everybody on board to plant a tree in their areas to green Ghana once again,” he added.

The Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency in the Eastern Region, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has said that the respect we claim we have for teachers must be visible in the budgets we set for those who train them because they play a crucial role in the country’s development.

“In 2025, out of a total of GHC293.1 billion national budget, GHC31.77 billion was allocated to the entire educational sector, with just about 203 million devoted to Teacher Trainer Allowances, and it is not encouraging at all,” he noted.

The Abetifi MP, who contested the New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearership race and finished in third position, added that Ghanaians are yet to hear about the “Teacher Dabre” rural housing program for rural retention and the proposed 20% rural incentive allowance.

Dr. Acheampong was speaking as a guest speaker at the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education Founders’ Day Celebration on Friday, May 29, 2026, under the theme: ” CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE, SHAPING THE FUTURE ETHOS at the College’s auditorium in Kyebi, Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly.

He further stated that attracting and retaining excellent faculty at a teacher training college in Ghana today is not easy; therefore, salaries must be competitive, working conditions must be dignified, and research and professional development must also be supported.

The Chairman of the occasion, the Twafohene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio, on his part, said, “A nation that doesn’t honour its heroes is not a nation worth dying for.”

“It’s therefore proper and commendable that Kibi Presbyterian College of Education has chosen to educate students and cultivate institutional memory,” he opined.

Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio further said, the history of the institution itself reminds us that enduring institutions are rarely the labour of one individual alone.

The Principal of the College, Rev. Dr. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah, bemoaned how illegal miners are encroaching on their 20-acre land reserve for various projects.

According to him, the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education is growing and they are planning to turn it into a fully-fledged university, hence purchasing the 20-acre land.

According to Rev. Dr. Fosu-Ayarkwah, these illegal miners are fully armed, and they have done everything to stop them, but it has proven futile, which is why they are soliciting funds through the Founders Day Celebration to use to fence the school to prevent them from mining on their lands.

Dr. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah used this medium to appeal to the general public, especially philanthropists, corporate entities, and old students of the College, to come to their aid and assist them in raising funds to fence the school to secure and protect the land for its purpose in the future.

The Member of Parliament for the Fanteakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, Kwame Appiah Kodua, has vowed to use the five percent (5%) common fund he receives every month from the government through the District Assembly to undertake infrastructure projects for his constituents.

He noted that the District or Municipal Assembly receives 80% of the common fund while MPs receive 5% respectively.

“I am a Member of Parliament today because, the good people of Fanteakwa North had confidence in me and voted me into office in 2024 to go represent them in Ghana’s Parliament, and seek solutions to some of the challenges confronting them in the constituency,” he acknowledged.

“I can’t say that I have not gotten anything, for them to send me to Parliament to enact laws on their behalf is a great honor done to me,” he mentioned.

Mr. Appiah Kodua made this known at a town hall engagement with his constituents dubbed:” Thanking The People, Accounting For Stewardship” in Begoro on Wednesday, May 28, 2026.

He reiterated his commitment to utilize his 5% common fund well to benefit all the communities in his constituency and emphasise that the welfare and progress of his people are dear to his heart.

The MP urged them to continue rallying their support behind him to enable him to do more developmental projects for them.

He then presented items such as 10 long brooms, 20 hand gloves, 10 Cutlasses, 3 wheelbarrows, 10 shovels, 10 rakes and 10 wellington boots to the Bontrase and Mission Bethlehem communities, respectively, to use them to clean the town ahead of the maiden Royal Durbar of Begorohene, Daasebre Mireku Afari II, in September.

Mr. Appiah Kodua asserted that Begoro is the gateway to Fanteakwa North and they need to beautify the community so that dignitaries who would be gracing the Begorohene’s historic event will feel safe and secure at home.

He also presented 40 plastic chairs to the aforementioned communities to use for their gatherings.
