The Acting Director of Elections and Research for the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Eastern Regional Executive election, David Prah, has announced that more than 700 delegates are expected to participate in the exercise.
The delegates include 23 Members of Parliament, 10 Patrons, 627 Constituency Executives, 10 Council Elders, 17 Regional Executives, 3 Former Executive Members, and 23 TESCON Members.
The Eastern Regional NPP Executive election is slated for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Pep Park in Asamankese.
Mr. Prah said that Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the NPP, needs strong, vibrant, and intelligent executive members who will rally behind him and work hard to secure victory in 2028.
According to him, supporters of the 27 candidates vying for the various vacant positions have been advised to remain calm and refrain from making derogatory statements to ensure the success of the exercise.
He argued that Ghanaians are calling on the NPP to come and rescue them from the economic hardship that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has imposed on them.
Mr. Prah added that preparations are complete for Saturday’s election and assured that the election committee will ensure peace and transparency throughout the process.
The Adontenhene of the Akuapem Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, Otoobuor Djan Kwasi, has revealed that the Chiefs in Akuapem will be carried in a palanquin as part of celebrating this year’s Odwira festival.
According to him, for some years now, the Chiefs haven’t been carried in a palanquin to celebrate the festival for some reason.
He, however, noted that measures have been implemented to restore peace in the area.
Otoobuor Djan Kwasi said this directive is coming from the Akuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, to celebrate the 200 years of the Akuapem Odwira festival in grand style and to make it a memorable one.
He made this known during the Adontenman Adaebutuw at Nsakyi and Aburi on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
They use this period to pray and seek guidance and protection, and to ask their ancestor to heal them from any form of communicable diseases that may occur on their land, as they prepare for the celebration.
The 40-day Adaebutuw noise-making ban would be lifted on September 23, 2026, for the Odwira festival and other activities to commence.
He then urged all his Chiefs to do well and get a palanquin to make the celebration of the Odwira Festival @200 a success because it is their birthday.
“Some people assumed that observing Adaebutuw and other related Ghanaian culture means that the traditional leaders worship gods.
“Meanwhile, before Christianity came to Ghana, the traditional leaders has the way of doing things, and it contributed immensely to the growth and development of the country,” he noted.
Otoobuor Djan Kwasi said that Jesus Christ embarked on a 40-day fast and prayed to seek new strength from his Father in heaven to enable him to conquer the devil and save the world from its inequality on the cross.
He indicated that it is the same thing Nanaanom does every year to intercede for their people ahead of their Festivals to make the country progress and prosper.
The Kyebi Akwadumhene in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council of the Eastern Region, Barima Pobi Asomaning III, has installed two new Chiefs to his cabinet.
These two newly installed chiefs are Nana Akosua Afayose as Mmabaahemaa, and Nana Yaw Ayim as Asafosiripi. They both swore an oath to serve in truth and pledged to support the community’s development.
The Akwadumhene also swore an oath to them and promised to protect them at all times, whenever the need arose, unless he was unwell.
“Development and progress are very key to me, and as you have been ushered into the Akwadum traditional council, put in every effort to help me make Akwadumman one of the growing and transformational communities in the Akyem Abuakwa State,” he said.
Barima Asomaning III then advised them to stay away from their old ways and live an exemplary life for others to emulate because they are now traditional leaders in the community.
Nana Akosua Afayose thanked Akwadumhene for the honor done her and promised to work hard to bring development to the area.
“As Mmabaahemaa, my responsibility is to champion the welfare of the young ladies in the community and I am poised to empower them to venture into entrepreneurship training to enable them to be self-reliant,” she indicated.
Therefore, she advised Ghanaian young ladies to take entrepreneurship programs seriously to avoid becoming a burden to their husbands.
Ghana has been announced as the host country of the inaugural “Black Star Reggaefest”, a premier international reggae and cultural festival scheduled for December 2027 in Accra.
The initiative seeks to position Ghana as a leading destination for reggae music, cultural tourism, and creative exchange.
Officially launched by the Teria Foundation, the much‑anticipated event will be held under the theme “Where the World Meets Africa Through Reggae.”

The Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Aburi, in the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region, held its 2026 Founders’ Day, Academic Excellence Awards, and Retirement Appreciation Ceremony on Thursday, August 6.
Speaking at the program on the theme: “Honouring Our Heritage, Redefining Excellence in Female Education and Leadership,” the Principal of the College, Dr. Cynthia Anim, said the Founder’s Day Lecture reminds them that institutions remain relevant when they continue to engage critically with the challenges and opportunities of their time.
“We believe this lecture will deepen the gratitude of our history, inspire innovation and strengthen our commitment to preparing quality teachers for Ghana and beyond,” she mentioned.
Dr. Cynthia Anim further added that it will also contribute to their ongoing aspiration of positioning the College for enhanced academic status as they work towards the vision of becoming a full-fledged university.

The Principal revealed that since the introduction of this initiative, the College has witnessed significant improvement in academic performance.
In the 2021/2022 academic year, only three (3) out of 209 graduates attained First Class honours, representing 1.43%. This increased to thirty-seven (37) out of 211 graduates, representing 17.54%, in the 2022/2023 academic year.
“The progress continued in the 2024/2025 academic year, with 145 graduates, representing 39.3% of the graduating class, attaining First Class Honours. This remarkable improvement reflects the collective commitment of students, lecturers, families and the entire College community,” she noted.
Dr. Mrs. Cynthia Anim indicated that to ensure sustainability and strengthen this culture of excellence, the College sought sponsorship support for the provision of laptops, tablets, and plaques for deserving award recipients at the 2026 Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony.
However, this year, all awardees were presented with a commemorative plaque. Additionally, students who attained a GPA of 3.90 to 4.00 received a laptop, while those with a GPA of 3.80 to 3.89 received a tablet, in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.
Meanwhile, those who did not get laptops and tablets received cash as bursary support.
On his part, the keynote address speaker of the program, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, stated that the government has a fundamental responsibility in creating the conditions necessary for educational excellence in our female institutions, and it must be a national priority.
He stressed that education is not merely a private investment, but rather it is good for Ghana to prepare women of excellence in leadership.
“A nation that neglects the education of women eventually compromises its own economic development,” he opined.
The Vice Chancellor of Garden City University in the Ashanti Region, Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori, has urged universities in Ghana to incorporate innovation and entrepreneurship programs into their curriculum to improve the lives of students.
He indicated that one of the major problems causing unemployment in Ghana now is universities teaching students only theories.
According to him, every year, universities in Ghana graduate a large number of students without equipping them with the innovation and entrepreneurship skills necessary to start their own ventures and earn an income while waiting for other job opportunities after graduation.
“Ghana’s unemployment rate would have reduced drastically if the various universities in the country had embraced this strategy and included artisanal training in their academics for the students to become self-reliant after successfully graduating from the institution,” he mentioned.
Professor Kwasi Ofori made these remarks when the management of the Garden City University paid a courtesy call on Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Ofori Panin Fie, Kyebi in the Eastern Region. The visit was to thank him for honoring his invitation during his investiture as the Vice Chancellor of the University at Kenyase-Kumasi.
He expressed that the government alone cannot employ thousands of students who graduate every year, which is why Garden City University recognized the need to incorporate innovation and entrepreneurship programs into their curriculum, enabling students to create jobs for themselves after graduation.
On the other hand, he expressed worry over 3,000 students who registered for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but were absent.
Prof. Eric Ofori mentioned that the BECE is the gateway to Senior High School.
“At least every Ghanaian child should have an SHS certificate to give them exposure to compete with their colleagues, even if they couldn’t pursue their education to the tertiary level, but to terminate BECE is uncalled for,” he noted.
He believes the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, should set up a committee to investigate and determine why these children were unable to participate in the exams, as it is the foundation of their lives.
The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has expressed concern about the display of guns during the celebration of festivals and other traditional events in the country.
He noted a directive by the National Security to various traditional councils to reduce the display of guns and stop using live bullets during the celebration of festivals to avoid any tragedy that may occur during the program.
Amoatia Ofori Panin indicated that most of the people, especially the aged, who attend such programs are medically unfit, and the gunshots can put fear in them and trigger their illness.
The Okyenmanwura made this known on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Ofori Panin Fie, Kyebi, in the Eastern Region, during their second-quarter State Council meeting.
The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, then admonished all the Traditional Councils and Areas in Ghana to abide by the National Security directive to reduce gunshots during festival celebrations and use ammunition that is not harmful to protect the lives of festival attendees.
He used the opportunity to elevate 16 sub-divisional Chiefs to Barima status. He warned that no Divisional Chief has the power to confer a title on their Chiefs without notifying him for approval.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin then advised all his Chiefs to champion infrastructure projects in their communities rather than chasing titles.
Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, Mensahkromhene, Barima Mensah Kwasi Antwi, one of the elevated Chiefs, thanked Okyenhene and his cabinet for the honor done him.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving and championing developmental projects for the good people of Mensahkrom to uplift their standards of living.
On his part, Akyem Akwadumhene, Barima Pobi Asomaning III, also thanked Okyenmanwura for the conferment of the Barima title on him.
He mentioned that there’s a reward in serving; he therefore assured Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin that he would continue to work hard to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Okyeman.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Right Reverend Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has added his voice to the growing concern about indiscipline among schoolchildren in the country.
He noted that these days, activities that border on criminality are taking place in our schools.
According to Dr. Nana Opare Kwakye, Children nowadays go to school with guns instead of books, and others also engage in hard drugs, and as a country, we must treat this as a National Security threat and stop it early before it escalates.
The Moderator said this during the 18th Congregation of Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, where 578 students were successfully graduated from the institution on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Kyebi, Eastern Region.
Out of this number, 135 students grabbed 1st class positions, 308 maintained the 2nd class Upper position, 115 secured the 2nd class Lower position, and 20 placed in the 3rd class position.

The outgoing Principal of the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, Rev. Dr. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah, under whose tenure for the past 9 years in office, the College has seen numerous infrastructure improvements.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Nsawam-Adoagiri Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Philibert Selorm Fummey, broke ground on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, for the construction of the government’s flagship program, the 24-hour economy market at Nsawam, to create numerous job opportunities for the locality.
The Nsawam-Adoagiri MCE was joined by the overlord of the Aburi Traditional Area, Otoobuor Gyan Kwasi, and his cabinet to perform these exercises for the commencement of the project.
The project, under the Ministry of Local Government, is expected to be completed within two years.
In his speech, the MCE, Philibert Selorm Fummey, stated that once completed, the project would enhance trading activities and create economic opportunities, particularly for women and youth within the municipality.
The market will include lockable stores, a supermarket, food court, a stock bay, cold store, and retail spaces for traders.
Philibert Fummey added that the complex will also feature a clinic, pharmacy, daycare center, bus terminal, women’s bank, police and fire stations, and other amenities to serve women.
Selorm Fummey believes that when the project is completed in the next 24 months, it will provide a modern, secure, and well-planned trading environment that supports commercial activities, stimulates entrepreneurship, and strengthens Nsawam Adoagyiri’s position as a major commercial gateway in Ghana.
On his part, the Aburihene Otoobuor Gyan Kwasi noted that the project would go a long way to significantly aid community development, as residents had long awaited a modern market.
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of chiefs to champion infrastructure projects for their people.
“It is about time people come together and embrace government projects that will transform their communities and set aside their political affiliations,” he opined.
The Aburihene reaffirmed the traditional area’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that will bring development to the people.
The Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, Nana Kwame Addo Frimpong, popularly known as Chief Buffalo, has awarded more than 30 teachers in his constituency for their outstanding performance.
The items received by the hardworking teachers include medium-sized gas cookers, refrigerators, 32-inch Nasco TV sets, and citations.
The maiden edition of the Abuakwa North MP’s Excellence Award aimed to appreciate teachers for positively impacting the lives of the learners with the limited resources available to them.
Speaking on the theme: “Honouring Professionalism, Celebrating Excellence in Education,” Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frimpong said the issue of overcrowding in the classroom doesn’t deter teachers from discharging their responsibilities in imparting knowledge to the schoolchildren.
He mentioned that more than 95% of Ghanaian Basic teachers are professionally trained, managing an average ratio of one teacher to thirty students (1:30), which is why they deserve to be honored.
He then called for continued government targeted intervention to mitigate the challenges confronting the educational sector.
“We must expedite the processes of allowances and hardship packages for teachers serving in the remote and rural communities to be able to encourage retention.’
“Government must accelerate the provision of modern digital learning equipment [smart boards and internet connectivity] to the Basic Schools, closing the gap between urban and rural education.
“The promotion process, responsibility allowances, and logistics support for our teachers must be streamlined to prevent undue administrative delays,” he explained.
The MP believes that in doing so, it would enhance teaching and learning in the country.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, commended the Abuakwa North Member of Parliament for recognising the efforts of the teachers in his constituency and awarding them.
She entreated all the teachers in the Abuakwa North Municipality, especially the awardees, to work hard, show commitment, passion, zeal, and enthusiasm to go beyond the four corners of the classroom and make sure the child becomes a beneficiary to society and contributes meaningfully to the growth and development of the nation.
