Dept Min For Edu Breaks Grounds For Multipurpose TVET Workshop Centre At SPATS

As government effort to strengthened the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country to ensure every Ghanaian child get his or her own hand craft.

The Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) who doubles as the MP for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon Gifty Twum Ampofo has cut sod for the construction of multipurpose storey building TVET workshop centre at St. Paul Technical Institute in Kukurantumi. The following departments can be found in the workshop after completion , Mechanical Engineering, Authomative Engineering, Electrical and Electronics , Weldering Engineering and etc. This construction will be done by Avic Int’l and is expected to be completed within 18 months time.

In her speech, she emphatically stated, “many people are of the view that, gov’t is spending huge amount of money on the Free SHS students and is not true. But rather gov’t is spending much more money on TVET students more than the Free SHS students”

Prez Nana Addo says, “if we want to eliminate poverty and stops our graduates from carrying the brown envelopes going arounds in search of jobs then as a nation the best solution to that problem is TVET”

“Because if you complete TVET school, you can open your own shop and employ other people to pay them” she said.

Hon. Deputy Education Minister revealed that, government is spending 131million dollars on National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) students, “we are using 478 million dollars for the construction of the 13 state of the art workshops across the country of which SPATS have also benefitted one from the such amount”

The Chief of Kukurantumi, Dasebre Boamah Darko, together with his cabinet who graced the event commended the NPP led governance for their good works for embarking on building the Multipurpose workshops across the country to boost TVET education.

“We have had so many governments in this country before but Prez Nana Addo is unique amongst all of them. He is doing unprecedented works for making Technical and Vocational Education and Training so attractive to the students” he praised.

Dasebre Darko took the opportunity to make a humble appeal to Hon Gifty Twum to consider and construct the St. Paul Technical Institute road for them.

Furthermore, the Executive Director for Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah added that, just about “2years ago the Senior Minister Hon. Osarfo Marfo announced gov’t plans to transform TVET and as such re-aligning all Technical and Vocational Institutions to the Ministry of Education”

“This process has advance so much. One of the things we are doing as the country is to give new meaning to TVET so as to ensure young ones in Ghana and youth of Ghana can have employable skills be it the grammar education or TVET education” he noted.

Dr. Kyei Asamoah revealed that, gov’t have invested so much in TVET and today we are here to witness one of such intervention which is infrastructure to support Technical and Vocational education.
