
National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has donated a relief items to the rainstorm victims of Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality of Eastern Region.
The items that worth undisclosed huge amount of money were presented to those affected individuals whose properties were destroyed by heavy rainstorm on easter Monday, April 5,2021.
Some of the relief items include; blankets, pillows, mattresses, roofing sheets, clothes and many more.
Addressing the short ceremony held at Akim Oda, the Director General of NADMO, Nana Agyemang Prempeh indicated that, most buildings in Ghana are old and needed to be demolished to save people’s lives.
“But if you try to do that, the owners of such buildings will paint you with a certain political party’s colour and even threatened to vote against the MP of that constituency for allowing their buildings to be demolished by either the assembly or NADMO officials”
“Gone are the days, our forefathers used to do maintenance on their buildings( houses) especially when we are approaching a rainy season to prevent any unforeseen tragedy but today the culture of maintenance is no more in existence and that is what is destroying our country” he opined.

He therefore made a humble appeal to the general public especially those whose buildings are on the verge of collapsing to allow themselves for the various assemblies or NADMO officials to demolished such buildings to save lives, since those structures can cause harm through collapsing.
Furthermore, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong thanked the Director General of NADMO and his team for their kind gesture.
The minister then recalled that faithful easter monday when he first had a distress phone call from the MP of the constituency, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah concerning the incident, a situation he said gave him a headache over where he was going to received support to enable assist the affected victims numbering over 500.
“First all when I heard the news, I stopped whatever I was doing and rushed to Akim Oda and in fact when we got to the scene it was very terrible situation and I have to talk to the victims to restraint patience” he recounted.
This, Hon. Seth Acheampong expressed his excitement over how the victims has finally been relieved by NADMO with the relief items.

Moreover, the senior presidential adviser to the Pres at the presidency, Hon. Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo also showed his gratitude to NADMO for their intervention to the victims of Akim Oda.
However he ceased the opportunity and begged the chiefs of Akim Oda to bring their chieftaincy dispute to an end, quizzing, how that could be the cause of this disaster.
The senior presidential adviser again charged the council of local churches members in the area to pray for the chiefs of Akim Oda to come nerves down.
Hon. Osafo Marfo hinted that, Pres. Nana Addo have heard their chieftaincy dispute and he has taken steps about the issue,, adding that anytime soon the chiefs of the area will be invited by Mr. Pres to the Jubilee House to see how possible best they can finally solved it to bring peace, unity and togetherness amongst the chiefs of Akim Oda.

All these were brought to light during the handing over of the relief items by NADMO to the victims of the Birim Central Municipality after they got hit with a heavy rainstorm.
Some dignitaries that attended the ceremony were Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP-Akim Oda Constituency, Hon. Victoria Adu Badu, MCE-Birim Central Municipality, Mr. Kwame Appiah Kodua, E/R NADMO director, clergy and nanaanom of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.
