‘I Have Been Neglected After Going On Retirement’…Ex- Boxer Cries Out

Former Ghanaian amateur and professional bantamweight boxer, Alhaji Sulley Shittu has disclosed that he has been left unrecognized in the sporting fraternity after a long over due services to the West African powerhouse, Ghana.

According to the ex orthodox boxer who won many medals to his name both in Europe and Africa said, all the achievement he made on the ticket of Ghana has proven futile since nobody recognized his quota of contributions at his old age. A situation he labelled as worrying.

Following this, he indicated that, he set up a boxing gym at his residence in Koforidua Zongo in attempt to teach the young ones but unfortunately they all stopped patronizing the facility abruptly.

“I have helped many Black Stars players to gotten to where they are now, but today none of them even come and visit me including the sports Council Authority. I’m not asking them to give me anything but their presence alone will put smile on my face” he stressed emotionally.

Alhaji Sulley Shittu made this known to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH in an interview during a visitation by the Eastern Regional Nasara Coordinator and his entourage to his residence to honour him for the good works he has done for the country whiles alive amidst celebrating his birthday.

The NPP Eastern Regional Nasara Coordinator, Alhaji Fadilu Fafana who is the birthday celebrant said, Alhaji Sulley Shittu has contributed immensely to Ghana sports especially the boxing cycles.

“Because during his time he fought a good fight and won a lot of medals for the country”.

However, Alhaji Fafana, highlighted that it is time Ghanains shift their focus at heroes who served the country in many diverse ways by honoring them whiles alive to feel the country’s echoes of appreciation.

Thereafter, he proceeded to Kwabeng Islamic Basic School in the Atiwa West District, and donated one motorbike to the headmaster to help enhances his daily activities as well as donating assorted drinks with biscuits to the students.

He ceased the opportunity and advised Zongo youth to take their education very serious because Zongo has bright future.

In appreciation, the Headmaster of Kwaben Islamic Basic School, Mr. Tufique Musah showed his gratitude to the Regional Nasara Coordinator for his kind gesture.

He then revealed some challenges confronting the school, indicating that, the school have computer laboratory yet they don’t have computers to teach the kids including electricity power.

Mr. Musah again revealed that, most of the students are truant to school because they go to the galamsey site to look for ends means for living which is very worrying, a menace he said is affecting their academics works.
