We Are Starving: Add Us To The School Feeding Programme—-Pupils TO Gov’t

Over 450 students of Anglican Primary School in Tikobo No2 in the Jomoro Municipal Assembly of Western Region has made a passionate appeal to the Government to considering adding their school to the School Feeding programme because they are starving.

The students who spoke to New Day FM Journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari on Thursday August 5, 2021, lamented that most of their parents are broke due to the economic hardship they are facing and its affecting their academic performances .

“We are humbly calling on the government to include our school to the school feeding programme policy, because most of us, our parents couldn’t get us money for school, thus we study with an empty stomach.”

They are also said they need a new Kindergarten block with furniture.

The Chief of Ehoaka Community, Nana Baze Kpanyinli (II) who doubles as the teacher of the Anglican primary school bemoaned that, the kids keep on leaving the school to join their sister schools who are the beneficiaries of the School Feeding Programme just to have a free meal.

According to the chief, the little children normally depends on him for financial support for daily feeding which is gradually milking his purse.

On behalf of the pupil, he also appealed to the Gender Ministry, government appointees, the Jomoro Municipal Assembly ,and Jomoro MP to consider this vulnerable students and add them to the school feeding programme policy to encourage them to attend school always.

Furthermore, Assembly Member for Tikobo No2 electoral area, Hon Augustine Marshall stated that most of the pupils are coming from the extremely poor homes. As a result they come to school with an empty stomachs which is not good for their health

According to him, they have written several petition letters to the Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Enerst Kofie and the Social Service Sub-committee in the Jomoro municipal assembly to come to their aid but it has yield no result.

Hon. Marshall commended one Mr Kenneth, a resident from Tikobo No2 for being supportive to the school kids by donating food items for them annually during the school’s ” Our Day’s” time.

“The students only enjoys free meal ones in a blue moon”.
