The Eastern Regional branch of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned residents to be extra careful about fake metres some unscrupulous persons are selling out in the region.
Mr. Emmanuel Halm, the PRO of ECG in the Region confirming to Kingdom News noted that, they have come across some unauthorized metres in their system which does not belongs to them.
He explained that, these unscrupulous people go to most communities and apparently introduced themselves to Assembly Members or the opinion leaders as official workers of ECG whoose duty is to register and give out metres to those who doesn’t have metres.
However, Mr. Halm expressed surprise of how the said persons are able to get Energy Ministry’s stickers and staple it on the fake metres to look as if its original.
He told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH in an interview, and stating that, they have excess metres at their various Municipal and District offices in the region so anyone who need some can go to there and get one.
He further stated, the metres from the ECG are original and its passes through PURC and Ghana Standard Authority for them to get tested before distributing them to their clients for use.
He added that, when the unapproved metre are being fixed for oneself, within two to three months the energy consumption will shoot up because it run fast. This is where the customers blames ECG for over billing them.
Mr. Emmanuel Halm continue that, it is the aim and vision of ECG to provide quality services for all clients and not to defraud them. He added that metres are not for sale as the unscrupulous people are doing.
Last but not the least, he asked residents to as a matter of urgency at all times go to ECG office for genuine metre to avoid consuming energy as compared to the fake ones.
