Mr. Michael Okyere Kofi Baafi, Member of Parliament for the people of New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region have on Monday, February 14, 2022 embarked on a E-Levy market to market sensitization campaign to ensure the market men and women understand the proposed electronic transaction tax.

Addressing the market people in Koforidua, Mr. Baafi said, the NPP gov’t won’t collect the E-Levy money to spend it but rather The money would be used on infrastructure projects for Ghanaians, it will benefit everybody in the country.

He said, since the era of Prez Dr. Kwame Nkrumah till now, Ghana have borrowed money from the white men to run the affairs of this country which doesn’t help in any way. So as it stands now going to International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a support is not an optional.

Thus, Prez Akufo-Addo say, we can’t continue borrowing money to run the affairs of this country anymore; hence there is the need for Ghanaians to accept the propose E-Levy bill.

Mr. Michael Baafi, who doubles as the Deputy Trade Minister stressed, population of Ghana is little above 30 million but only 2.4 million people pay their tax to the gov’t.

“How can the country get money to do developmental projects for its citizens,” he asked?.

“Meanwhile the white men use taxes to develop their countries and Ghana can also do same therefore Ghanaians should bare with the Gov’t to implement the E-Levy taxation”.

Furthermore, he told Kingdom TV/FM KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH that, the NDC MPs in parliament are all fully in support of the E-Levy.

“But they fear that when they come out publicly to say it, they might lose their seats in the upcoming 2024 general elections” he added.
