The Okyehene Ɔsagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has emphatically stated that it is the prominent and renowned person that has money to purchase excavators and other expensive equipment for the illegal mining activities that’s destroying lands and water bodies in the country.
According to him, ‘no chief in Ghana in his capacity has the resources to purchase an excavator’ to engage in the act rather the big men are behind this devilish illegal mining.
He made these remarks at Suhum Presbyterian Senior High School during the 2022 Cocoa Day which coincides with the 75th Anniversary celebration of the COCOBOD.

“If our task force team arrested them you will hear some people saying why have you taken the law into your own hands meanwhile gov’t has made a lot of effort to stop them but has proven futile.”
Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin indicated, there is nothing wrong to protect their lands and water bodies from being damaged by the galamseyers, because they have to leave behind a good legacy for the future generation.

In addition, the board chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Peter Mac-Manu acknowledged the fulfillment of president Akuffo Addo’s promise of an insurance scheme for all cocoa farmers to better their standard of living.
According to him, the programme will commence in October 2022.

Peter Mac-Manu then entreated all cocoa farmers to get registered to benefit from the hard work offered to the country.
Last but not the least, Ɔboafo Kwadwo Asante, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region who hosted the programme also congratulate the gallant Ghanaian cocoa farmers for their good work done for the country over the past 75 years.
The MP who doubles as a board member of the COCOBOD added, president Akufo-Addo has seen their contributions to the country’s development that’ why he is giving them a pension scheme when they retired from farming and noted that it is the first of its kind happening in the country.
