We Want To Reduce Maternal Mortality…GRNMA

The Eastern Regional Branch of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has said, they have put in place measures to reduce the maternal death rate in the region.

To the association, it is very worrying to loose both pregnant mother and her child or to save one and loose one in the cause of delivering because every live matters.

The Chairman for Eastern Regional Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwifes Association (GRNMA), Rev. Hayford Laryea said, they are going to write proposal letters to institutions and philanthropists to support them with some funds so that they can use it to purchase equipments that can be use to check or detect whether the baby is in a good condition in her mother’s womb or not.

Rev. Hayford Laryea told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH during their 4th quarter Regional Council meeting held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at their Regional Secretariat in Koforidua.

He added that, he is of the firm believe that coming 2023 if they get financial support from institutions and philanthropists to buy the requisite equipments, he is adamant more lives would be saved and the maternal mortality would be reduced drastically in the region.

He continue to say, their salaries is nothing to write home about and in 2023 budget government has increased income tax to 35%, meaning 35% of their basic salary will go into income tax which doesn’t sound well.

Rev. Hayford fumed, the 15% COLA would be abolished after the December 2022 and government is unreluctant to increase the 18% base pay.

“At first the disease people fear most was HIV/ AIDS but along the line COVID 19 also hit the entire world and it became hard for people to go outside but they worked 24/7 by ensuring lives are being saved. So President Akufo Addo should listen to their plea and do something about the 18% base pay,” he stressed.

Finally, he send his Goodwill Christmas message to all hardworking Ghanaian nurses and Midwives especially those in the Eastern Region for their massive contributions towards the country’s development.

He promised them that, the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwifes Association (GRNMA) will continue to fight for their well-being to make sure they get what is due them.
