I Don’t Subscribe To Corporal Punishment…Okyeman Akyempemhene

The Okyeman Akempemhene in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council of the Eastern Region, Berimah Kwame Antwi Bosiako has kicked against corporal punishment in the educational sector since that’s not the only surest way of correcting school children when they go wrong.

According to him, the reintroduction of canning students won’t have any positive impact on them but rather worsen the situation.

He noted that it is about time parents sit their children down and advise them to exhibit good behavior in school since they don’t know what the future hold for them.

“Because is very worrying to see students damaging School properties worth millions of cedis as well as using profane words for the leaders of the country,” he stressed.

Berimah Kwame Antwi Bosiako told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI when donating reading books and other teaching and learning materials to 10 basic schools [Primary level] in Kyebi to enhance the reading skills of the children in the area.

Some of the beneficiary Schools include Kibi M/A Experimental, Kibi Anglican, Kibi School for the Deaf, Ebenezer Habitat Presby, Pano Presby Basic, Methodist School, and KPCE Demonstration among others. Each school received over 50 boxes of learning resources.

To Okyeman Akyempimhene, he believes that the best option to correct the indiscipline behavior of Ghanaian students is to let them know the consequences of the wrong being engaged in.

Commenting on the donation, the Head of Supervision and Monitoring of Schools for Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly’s Education Directorate, Emmanuel Amoh said, reading play a vital role in one’s life, thus, the reading books received would help improve the reading skills of the children.

He assured Berimah Kwame Antwi Bosiako that they will put the reading books to good use and urge the other schools who were not part of the beneficiaries to exercise restraint for theirs will also follow suit.

Emmanuel Amoh then thanked the Akyempemhene for his kind gesture to the children.
