The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Alhaji Umar Babs Kofi Bodinga has issued a ‘4 day ultimatum’ to nomadic Fulani herdsmen to clear off their cattle from its land to avoid any chaos.
According to the MCE who doubles as chairman for the Abuakwa North Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), the nomadic fulani herdsmen has invaded their land with about 10,000 cattle and they are destroying the farmers crops which is very devastating.
He furthered by saying, when they refuse to withdraw their cattle from the area within the 4 day period given, the MUSEC will use its security personnel to flush them out of the place to ensure the farmer’s farm products and crops are being protected.
Alhaji Umar Bodinga made this known to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH during a press conference organized by the Abuakwa North Municipal Council on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at the Assembly to send a word of caution to whoever is behind this nomadic Fulani herdsmen to vacate their cattle from their land as soon as possible or to face their wrath.
The MCE indicate that, over 70% residents of Abuakwa North are farmers of which most of them are women and they don’t want to hear this nomadic Fulani herdsmen has raped anyone of them or to cause harm to the farmers before action would be taken, hence the 4 day ultimatum to leave the place.
On the other hand, the chairman for Abuakwa North Farmers Association, Emmanuel Kudjo told KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, they concur with the MUSEC for giving 4 day ultimatum to the nomadic fulani herdsmen to leave the area with their cattle, because their attitude towards them [farmers] are very bad and if care is not taking they can even kill you.
He added that, somewhere last year same nomadic fulani herdsmen invaded the place and destroyed many farmer crops and it cost them a lot.
He thus described the move by the MUSEC as very timely because anytime soon they would start planting their crops.
Meanwhile, Nana Kwakye Okyere, the Kukurantumi Sanaahene who represented the Kukurantumihene Daasebre Boamah Darko also told KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH that, they support the decision being taken by the MUSEC not to accommodate the nomadic fulani herdsmen and their cattle in the area.
