The Eastern Regional Chairman for Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Rev Hayford Laryea has lamented over the difficulties the unpaid students, rotational nurses and Midwives are going through for not receiving their allowance for some couple of months.
According to him, he went for a program at the Oda Community Nursing and Training College and after engaging the students they asked him about their unpaid allowance as they nears completion of school.
Adding that, he was at his office and another rotational nurses came in and asked him for help to be able to pay her rent because they have worked for over eight months without receiving their allowance meanwhile they will be completing their rotation on June, 2023 and all this things doesn’t sound well.

Rev. Laryea furthered by saying, most of this Students use their allowances to pay their school fees and also to take care of themselves.
“We know all is not well with the country but would pleaded with the government to do well to pay them their allowances before they bring their programs to an end.
Rev. Hayford Laryea revealed this during their Regional Opening of the 2023 Nurese and Midwives Week Celebration on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Koforidua.

He stressed, that there are lot of challenges confronting the health sector workers and the worst of them all is that when these frontrunners fall sick they have no insurance package to covers them unlike the benefits other institutional workers aquires.
‘Our salaries is nothing to write home about and if we fall sick we have to use same salary to treat ourselves, hence the government should please address our challenges as a means to strengthen the healthcare delivery system.”
