The Mamfehene, Nana Ansah Sasreku who doubles as the Kyidomhene of Akuapem Traditional Council in the Eastern Region has donated mathematical sets and sanitary pads to the candidates who will sit for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) in the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly.
Candidates from the 13 Basic Schools in the following towns are the beneficiaries of the items; Mampong, Larteh, Akropong, Amanokrom and Obosomase but the sanitary pads were given to only the girls.
Speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, Nana Ansah Sasraku said, one of the teachers from the area appealed to him to take the B.E.C.E candidates to tour and visit some of the Senior High Schools in and outside the Municipality so during the trip, unfortunately one of the girls menstruated herself in the bus and they had to find a way to dress her up.

“So in the discussion on the trip, the teacher informed me that sometimes they get into such situations especially when to writing the B.E.C.E and it could occur that someone may have her period and because of they luck the sanitary pads it could affect their state of minds or even they won’t come and write it again”, he added.
Nana Sasreku adds, after returning from the trip, he spoke to some people and they support him with the sanitary pads so he distributed them to the Basic Schools in Mamfe.
Later on, one of the donors, Nana Ofosu Yeboah asked him to do same for the other schools in the Municipality; hence his move to supports the candidates from the aforementioned towns with the items.

Again he said, the Nanaanom of Mamfe has banned BECE graduates from organising parties after finishing school, the Basic School is just the beginning of the education lader and they have to focus much on what is ahead of them.
He then wish them well and advice them to learn hard to be able to pass the exams and take advantage of the government Free S.H.S policy to better their future.
Receiving the items on behalf the candidates, the Akuapem North Municipal Girls Education Officer, Gifty Eshun thanked the Mamfehene for his kind gesture.

She also told KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, that the high cost sanitary pads compiled many school girls to use t-roll or newspapers when menstruating which is not good for their health.
She further stressed, that some girls too since they don’t have money to buy sanitary pads when they are menstruating they don’t come to school at all unless they’re done. So would pleaded with the gov’t or any other institutions to do well to at least once a while distribute some to the schools.
