More Than 2,000 Cell Sites To Be Activated In June….Ursula Owusu

Minister of Communication and Digitization, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has revealed that, all the Two thousand and sixteen (2016) cell sites across the country in the rural areas are going to be connected in June, 2024.

According to her, out of the aforementioned figure, Eastern Region had 90 of which 55 of them have been activated and the remaining 35 would also be connecting soon.

The Communication Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region said the program was under the auspices of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and they are doing a marvelous job.

She stated that it were the vision of government under President Akufo-Addo to extend cell site to every community across the breath and length of the country for them to have access to quality telecommunication network to do their daily activities.

Ursula Ekuful was speaking with Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH during the commissioning of Awisa Community ICT Centre, Mofram Cell Site, Asuom Community ICT Centre, Twum Wusu cell site and Suhum Community ICT Centre all in the Eastern on Saturday, October 28,2023.

The Communication Minister added, that the government initiative of introduction the Girls In ICT program where they are training girls in the Basic Schools is to enable them to know how to operate computer, create websites and scratches on their own and make money from it.

“And they can’t learn all this important things in the communities that don’t have access to better internet connectivity; hence mounting the Cell sites in those rural areas to help them learn the ICT better to their future.”

Meanwhile the residents of Mofram and Twum Wusu were relief over the cell sites received.

They told KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH that previously whenever they want to make phone calls they have to stand at a specific location though they had unstable network connection but to them, now that their cell site have been activated, they would have stress free to make their calls and also have access to the Internet as well.

This, they expressed their gratefulness to President Nana Addo and his Communication Minister for what they have done for them.
