The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region who is seeking reelection has successfully passed through the vetting process and picked the number one spot on the ballot paper.
The Eastern Regional New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries vetting commenced on Wednesday, January 3, and ended on Thursday, January 4, 2024, when 85 candidates successfully filed their nominations.
The vetting committee was chaired by Lord Comey and was supported by the Eastern Regional NPP executives.
Addressing the media, the Abuakwa North MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Education responsible for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stated that her good works will speak for her to win the upcoming parliamentary primaries slated for January 27, 2024.
Gifty Ampofo adds, that all the other candidates who are competing with her should have withdrawn their candidature from the contest and allowed her to go unopposed because they can’t defeat her.
“Because our party believes in democracy, everybody can come and test the waters, go back and prepare themselves well, and join the parliamentary primaries race again when I finish my work and no more contesting,” she stressed.
Gifty Twum Ampofo revealed that, in the history of Abuakwa North, no incumbent MP has been elected twice apart from her, and this indicates that her constituents appreciate what she is doing.
She is optimistic that the delegates will give her another opportunity by voting massively for her to go to parliament and lobby for developmental projects for them.
