The Eastern Regional Manager for the Forestry Commission, Isaac Noble Eshun says, the region is targeting planting 700,000 tree seedlings in support of the Green Ghana Day initiative.
Meanwhile, the entire country is expected to plant 10 million trees on June 7, 2024, to augment the already existing ones. Some of the trees expected to be planted include mahogany, sepale, and Ofram among others.
Mr. Eshun, speaking to KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, disclosed that the commission has a shortage of economic trees such as mango, coconut, and avocado however they are working around the clock to get some on board before the dee day.
This year Green Ghana Day is dubbed: GROWING FOR A GREENER TOMORROW
Noble Eshun commended Ghanaians for embracing the program and entreated them to get involved as done in the past to help them achieve its target.
Speaking further he noted that they have distributed 700,000 seedlings to all their offices in the Region i.e Begoro, Kyebi, Donkorkrom, Mpraeso, Somanya, Kade, Oda including the regional office at Koforidua Akwadum.
“So anyone who needs some of the seedlings can walk into the aforementioned offices and take some for planting,” he told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH.
In his view, the fact that some Ghanaians have inculcated the habit of destroying the water bodies, lands, and forest reserves with their activities should not be a reason to demotivate others from helping the tree planting initiatives since it is for good.
