E/R: 50 People Benefit From MTN Ghana Foundation’s ¢2M SMEs Financial Support

The Mobile Telecommunications Network MTN Ghana Foundation has set aside Two million Ghana Cedis (¢2m) to support those who are in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises across the length and breadth of the country.

This financial support is aimed at helping them to get money to expand their businesses and employ others who are unemployed in various societies.

50 people from the Eastern Region, comprising Persons living with Disabilities, women, and youth who run their small businesses, were selected to benefit from this initiative after successfully passing the interview.

The money ranges from Five Thousand Ghana Cedis to Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (¢5,000.00 – 20,000.00) depending on the businesses they are running.

Speaking at the program held at the Regional Library on Wednesday, November 6, the Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer for MTN Ghana Foundation, Madam Adwoa Afriyie Wiafi mentioned that they saw the need to embark on this important journey to assist the Persons Living With Disabilities, youth and women to give them the financial support to enable them to expand their businesses and also to employ others who are not working, and indicated that in doing so it will help the country to develop.

Madam Afriyie Wiafe furthered by saying that micro and small businesses dominate in the country, but the owners find it difficult to get financial support to sustain them, which is very worrying, hence taking it upon themselves to come to their aid to help their businesses grow.

“The unemployment rate is very high, and people, especially the youth, are struggling to get jobs, hence MTN Ghana Foundation decided to provide financial support to those who have their handiworks to employ others who are unemployed to help at least reduce the unemployment rate in Ghana,” she opined.

The Executive Director for Innohub Foundation, Nelson Amo commended the MTN Ghana Foundation for embarking on such an initiative to help the small businesses in the country grow.

He stated that in 2023 they had businesses growing their revenue from ¢7.6 million to ¢11.5 million with 100 new Jobs created.

Nelson Amoah then advised the beneficiaries in the Region to utilize the money for the purpose of helping others get jobs to curb the unemployment rate menace confronting the country.

Speaking to KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH after the program, some of the Persons Living With Disabilities expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the MTN Ghana Foundation for thinking about their welfare and giving them such a huge amount of money to use it to expand their businesses and create job opportunities for others.
