
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum Municipal Assembly, Margaret Darko Darkwa, and the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, have been accused of directing a macho men to assault one Daniel Densu Larbi.
Reports alleged that during a campaign walk organized by Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as Protozoa, the MCE pointed at [Daniel Densu Larbi, popularly known as Nana Bodonkua] while standing in front of his house and instructed some macho men to beat him up without provocation.
According to the report, the victim [a campaign team member of incumbent Member of Parliament – Oboafo Kwadjo Asante] attempted to flee into his house for safety but was pursued by the supposedly bodyguards of Frank Asiedu Bekoe.
The victim is said to have been dragged out and beaten mercilessly by the said bodyguards in the event, leaving him unconscious on the ground.
The MCE is alleged to have said, “Beat him, and nothing will happen. I’m the MCE and the chairperson of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC). Beat him; nothing will happen,” the reports highlighted.
Team Oboafo, in a strongly worded statement, has condemned the alleged act by the MCE and the parliamentary candidate. They have called on the police to ensure that all perpetrators face the full rigors of the law.
Daniel Densu Larbi is reportedly receiving treatment at the emergency ward of Suhum Government Hospital as a result of the incident.
The Suhum District Police Command has been notified, and statements have been taken as part of the investigation, this website understands.
Team Oboafo also issued a stern warning, stating that their calm and peaceful nature should not be mistaken for weakness. They emphasized their readiness to defend themselves if these alleged undemocratic actions persist.
In their statement, they urged constituents to support the peaceful character of Oboafo Kwadjo Asante and his campaign team, encouraging everyone to maintain the peace in the constituency.
They furthered that ‘We, team Oboafo called on the constituents to rise against violence in Suhum and say no to violence. Let’s have a violence-free election,’ the team emphasized.
Meanwhile, the MCE, Margaret Darko Darkwa, has denied the allegations against her and the parliamentary candidate, describing them as untrue.
In her defense, she claimed that Daniel Densu Larbi is known to insult her whenever he sees her, and the same occurred during the campaign walk on the said day.
She alleged that this time, the victim was recording her on his phone while hurling insults at her, something, she said prompted her and instructed a participant to take the phone from him.
The MCE reiterated in her denial statement that she never ordered an attack or assault to be launched at the victim as claimed.
