Akwatia By-Election: Act Professionally…NPP Tells IGP

The New Patriotic Party has sent a stern warning to the Inspector General of Police, Tetteh Yohunu, to discharge his duty professionally in the upcoming September 2, 2025, Akwatia by-election to avoid any chaos that may arise in the constituency.

Speaking at the delegates’ conference and campaign launch held at Bodua to unveil Solomon Asumado, the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, the National Organizer of the party, Henry Nana Boakye, stressed that the IGP should put in place thorough punitive security measures to ensure Akwatiaman enjoys an incident-free by-election.

According to him, they do not want to witness the same brutality that occurred in the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

He stated that, other than those mentioned above, they would also protect themselves.

Nana Boakye alleged that the pictures of those militants who caused mayhem in Ablekuma North are on social media, but the Ghana Police Service has not been able to apprehend any of them, a situation he described as pathetic.

He assured the Eastern Regional executives that the National Leadership of the party would provide them with any resources they need to support the Akwatia constituency executives to maintain the seat for the NPP in Parliament.

The NPP’s National Organizer then urged the elephant family members in Akwatia to embark on a serious campaign for the party to enable the constituents to vote for Asumado Solomon to honor Yaw Kumi, the late MP of the constituency.
