Akwatia By-Election: Late Yaw Kumi’s Hard Work, Sacrifice Won NPP The Seat…Asumado

Solomon Asumado, PC- Akwatia constituency.

The Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia constituency, Solomon Asumado, has eulogized the late Ernest Yaw Kumi for working tirelessly to win the parliamentary seat for the New Patriotic Party in 2024.

He said Mr. Kumi made a lot of sacrifices before winning the seat for the party, and therefore, they as a party must forgo their differences and put in much effort to retain the seat to honor him

According to him, in the 2020 election, the performance of Yaw Kumi as PC gave the party hope that if they had given him another nod to contest the 2024 election, he was going to win the parliamentary seat for the NPP. Low and behold, he made it on December 7, 2024.

Asumado reiterates his commitment to completing every project commenced by Ernest Kumi if he becomes the next Member of Parliament of the Akwatia constituency.

He made these remarks during their constituency delegate conference and campaign launch at Boadua.

The Akwatia by-election is slated for September 2, 2025.

The Member of Parliament for the Akuapem North constituency, Sammi Awuku, said Ernest Yaw Kumi sat behind him in Parliament, and he was on good terms with him; his death shocked everybody.

Sammi Awuku revealed that both of them, including Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for the New Juaben constituency, were lobbying a consultant to come and do a project for their respective constituencies. Whenever the late Akwatia MP calls for a meeting, the National Democratic Congress chases him with court issues.

After Ernest Kumi’s victory in the 2024 parliamentary election, the NDC’s PC for Akwatia, Henry Boakye Yiadom, took him to the Koforidua High Court, challenging the results.
