Gov’t To Announce New Producer Price For Cocoa Today…Ofosu Ampofo.

The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Elder Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has revealed that the government will announce a new producer price for cocoa on Monday, August 4, 2025.

According to him, this new cocoa price announcement would be made by the finance minister, Dr. Atto Forson.

“As a board chairman of the cocoa board, the welfare of the cocoa farmers in the country is paramount to me, hence the new price to enable them to know that we appreciate their efforts toward the development of the country,” he mentioned.

Dr. Ofosu Ampofo, who serves as senior advisor to Vice President president Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, further stated that the strength of Ghanas’ finance depends on cocoa, which is why President John Mahama saw the need to increase the price to motivate the cocoa farmers because they also deserve better to change their standard of living.

He made this known on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Akyem Adukrom when he attended the funeral service of late Samuel Asare, a catechist of presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The producer price of cocoa in Ghana is currently GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, which is equivalent to GH₵49,600 per tonne, according to Cocobod.

Dr. Samuel Ampofo bemoaned the absence of youth engaging in cocoa farming and indicated that if this continues, the future of cocoa production in Ghana would be bleak.

He then appealed to them not to leave the work for only the aged, revealing that the government is committed to supporting youth engaging in the agriculture sector to shape their lives, especially in cocoa farming.
