Suhum MCE Supports Needy But Brilliant Newly Admitted SHS Students

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Suhum Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Lydia Ohenewaa, has donated trunks, mattresses, exercise books, and chop boxes to 250 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates preparing to leave for various Senior High Schools within the municipality.

The beneficiaries are students who performed exceptionally well but come from financially challenged backgrounds.

According to the MCE, the gesture is aimed at supporting parents who are financially drained and unable to afford the required items for their admitted wards.

Speaking to journalists, Madam Ohenewaa reaffirmed that education remains a key component of President John Dramani Mahama’s resetting agenda, which seeks to ensure that no Ghanaian child is denied access to Senior High School due to financial constraints.

The MCE expressed her admiration for the outstanding performance of the graduates, noting that every student secured placement in a school. Owing to this, she pledged to offer full scholarships to the tertiary level for those who return with excellent results after completing SHS.

Madam Ohenewaa also presented an undisclosed amount, along with hampers, to the top three graduates who scored an aggregate of 7. Additionally, she donated an undisclosed amount to Suhum Okorase M/A Experimental JHS in recognition of their exceptional academic performance in this year’s BECE.

On her part, the Municipal Director of Education, Angelina Aba Osei Bonsu, lauded the MCE’s initiative, describing it as unprecedented in Suhum and invoked divine blessings upon Madam Ohenewaa for her generosity.

She advised the students to remain self-disciplined and focused as they prepare to leave for school on Saturday, October 18, to begin their SHS journey.

Madam Osei Bonsu further urged the graduates to make their schools, and especially the MCE proud, and ensure that they refrain from any conduct that could bring shame or regret to those who have supported them.

Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, some parents of the beneficiaries, conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to the MCE, adding that the gesture had brought significant financial relief.
