New Juaben South: Ada Kyerematen ‘B’ Wins Maiden Edition Literacy Challenge


Ada Kyerematen ‘B’ has been crowned the winner of the maiden cluster-based reading and spelling competition held in the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern region.

The competition initiated by the New Juaben South Education Directorate aimed at encouraging reading at the basic level to enhance learners’ knowledge acquisition, vocabulary and language skills, critical thinking and analytical skills, personal growth and empathy, and to better learners’ academic performance.

The competition was held for upper primary 5 and 6  and Junior High School 1, 2, and 3 learners.

The following Schools participated in the exercise: Ada Kyerematen Basic ‘B’, Falahiya Islamic Basic School, and Ada Kyerematen Basic School ‘A’.

On a principal account of promoting good reading habits among learners, judges awarded marks to the contestants’ reading ability and qualities such as curiosity, active engagement, strong comprehension, vocabulary awareness, patience and persistence,  reflection and connection, as well as open-mindedness.

The contestants who emerged as winners at all levels were awarded learning materials, such as exercise books, pens, and pencils.

The English teacher for Ada Kyerematen Basic School ‘B’,  Hilda Dompeh who facilitated the preparation of his learners for the competition, acknowledged that reading is the foundation of learners’ academic journey, hence it must be prioritized as learners’ basic need at all levels.

She admonished the learners to adopt a relentless reading habit to achieve excellence in reading.
