The Atiwa East District Assembly in the Eastern Region joined the nation in celebrating the 41st National Farmers’ Day, themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”
The celebration aimed to honor hardworking Ghanaian farmers who, for decades, have produced food for the country.
Addressing the gathering at Subriso, the District Chief Executive, Ernest Owusu Ntim, congratulated the farmers for their significant contribution to the nation’s growth and development.
He noted that agriculture remains paramount to President John Dramani Mahama, which is why several programs and policies have been implemented to shape the future of farmers in Ghana.
Mr. Ntim added that President Mahama knows the importance of farming, describing agriculture as the bedrock of every country.
He emphasized that the President himself engages in farming activities to help feed citizens.
The Atiwa East DCE further urged Ghanaians to support and patronize locally produced food to enable farmers to earn a living and support their families.
A 30-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Teye, was crowned the 2025 Overall Best Farmer of the Atiwa East District Assembly.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Teye lamented the destruction of farmlands by illegal miners.
He appealed to President Mahama to implement punitive measures to halt the miners, stressing that farmers cannot continue to invest in agriculture only for their farms to be destroyed for personal gain.
The Abakoasehene, Berima Appiah Akroma Acheampong commended the youth for venturing into agriculture, describing it as a positive sign for the country.
He encouraged more young people to take up farming, noting that President Mahama has rolled out numerous programs to make agriculture attractive compared to previous years.
