The Fanteakwa South Constituency Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region, Mark Okraku, has described the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a defunct political party in Ghana.
According to him, the 2024 general election results demonstrate how Ghanaians vehemently rejected the NPP because of its unattractiveness.
He explained that in the history of Ghanaian politics, no government in power has ever secured 38% in a general election since the inception of democracy in 1992, and he described it as a disgrace to the party’s leadership.
Mr. Okraku debunked claims that Ghanaians miss the NPP returning to power in 2028. He argued that the party’s abysmal performance in 2024 continues to haunt them, adding that the result is still giving them a nightmare, and question how discerning Ghanaians will miss them
Mark Okraku added that the NPP is currently confused and uncertain about who to choose among its five presidential aspirants as the next flagbearer, stressing that the party is in disarray.
“Everybody in NPP is on the run, including the elephant being their symbol, and I don’t think they will come to power anytime soon,” he remarked.
He added “The former Vice President and the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia should forget about Ghana’s Presidential seat because his own party members do not want to give him their internal seat to sit on it because of his 38% achievement record in 2024 elections,” said the Fanteakwa South NDC Chairman.
Mark Okraku categorically stated that if he were a brother of Samira Bawumia, he would advise her to talk to her husband to withdraw from the flagbearership race and spend his remaining money, because he was the cause of the hardship in Ghana, and there is no way he can become President of the Republic.
Highlighting the five presidential aspirants, Mr. Okraku said Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyapong are all focused on the 2032 election rather than the upcoming 2028 contest.
“Bawumia will go for retirement, and as for Kennedy Agyapong, he always says he doesn’t know why he joined NPP, and it is clear that their leadership is very weak,” he added.
Mark Okraku stressed that although the NPP has long bragged that “they have the men,” the party suffered a heavy defeat in 2024.
He alleged that their National Chairman has resigned from his position because he could not bear the humiliation of Bawumia’s 38% votes secured for the party.
