The newly elected executives of the Aristocrat Confraternity, a non-political group in Ghana, announced plans to embark on public education on the implications of illicit drug abuse.
According to them, the public sensitization campaign will commence in Koforidua and will target young people engaged in drug abuse, urging them to desist from such acts and secure a better future for themselves.
They explained that the public campaign against drug abuse among the youth forms part of the Association’s initiative to help affected individuals quit hard drugs and achieve their aims and aspirations in life.
Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh on behalf of the Chairman, Nathan Gyasi Marfo, the General Secretary of the Aristocrat Confraternity, Samuel Ansah Asiedu, said the Association is made up of several professionals, including doctors, who are capable of engaging addicts and educating them on the dangers of drug abuse.
“We brought some of the youth who were engaging in such activities closer to us and let them know the health hazard of drug abuse and took them to a rehabilitation center and today, their lives have changed, and they are doing well to take care of their families,” he added.
Mr. Ansah Asiedu stated that the well-being of the youth in the country remains their topmost priority, hence the decision to embark on public outreach education to address the increasing rate of drug abuse among young people, enabling them to stay away from it and become prominent individuals in the future.
He reaffirmed the Aristocrat Confraternity’s commitment to offering support to those who decide to quit drug abuse and start a new life in their respective communities to better themselves.
“The Association believes that the fight against drug addiction among the youth is a shared responsibility and that the government alone cannot win the battle; therefore, it has taken it upon itself to engage young people directly, advise them to desist from drug abuse, and remind them that they are the future of the country,” he noted.
