Preparations are underway for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a new leader to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Osei Yaw Adutwum, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong are the contestants vying to become the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.

To ensure a successful and peaceful election, the Eastern Regional Police Command has assured the public of adequate security measures to guarantee a smooth process without recording any casualties before, during, and after the exercise.

Speaking to journalists ahead of the presidential primaries, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joseph Owusu Bempah, said that to tighten security, the Command would deploy 1,717 police personnel to various polling centres within the region.

He explained that each constituency would have 125 police personnel, including two senior officers. He added that two rapid response teams would be stationed in every constituency, while 220 personnel have been trained to manage public order at the centres, with an additional 100 officers on standby.

DCOP Owusu Bempah stated that the deployment of these officers demonstrates the Command’s commitment and readiness to protect lives and property before, during, and after the exercise on Saturday.

He further revealed that the Police have already engaged key stakeholders, particularly NPP executives and the five presidential aspirants, urging them to educate their supporters to abide by the rules governing the elections to ensure peace among all parties involved.
