Suhum MCE Laments State Of Hospital’s Emergency Unit

Lydia Ohenewaa, MCE- Suhum Municipal Assembly.

Municipal Chief Executive of Suhum Municipal Assembly in Eastern Region, Lydia Ohenewaa, has bemoaned the current state of Suhum Government Hospital emergency ward.

According to her, a few weeks ago, an emergency case sent her to the hospital and she was in a state of shock when she entered the facility.

She realized that things are very bad for them and indicated that it’s not good to come to the hospital and return home with another disease.

As a result, Management of Assembly finds it necessary to embark on force facility inspection and help address challenges confronting them because a serene environment contributes to quick healing of patients.

Madam Ohenewaa expressed her dissatisfaction about the situation, saying that without wasting much time, they will refurbish the emergency ward and provide them with hospital equipment to enable them to discharge duty accordingly and save more lives.

She reiterates the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector and ensuring that it provides good services for Ghanaians.

She used medium and appealed to the general public, especially NGOs and philanthropists, to come to the aid of Suhum Government Hospital to help fix problems facing them.

“Because the central government alone can’t meet the demand of over 30 million Ghanaians seeking help in their communities.”

Naa Adoley Allotey, who received the MCE and her entourage on behalf of the hospital management, said Suhum Government Hospital is one of the busiest hospitals in the country, revealing they admit over 300 accident victims every month.

“The Management of the Hospital has done its best to provide resources to be used for work but with the pressure of patients that come there especially the road traffic accident cases poses a great challenge to unite and unfortunately, we don’t have enough beds, oxygen concentrators among others to accommodate the number of patients they bring to the hospital,” she recounted.

Naa Adoley Allotey added that they are glad to see the MCE assessing the devastating situation herself and expressed hopes that their challenges will be addressed anytime soon to enable them to provide quality healthcare delivery to their clients in the Municipality.

The Oyokohene, Nana Osei Bonsu Sempeh II of the New Juaben Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, has praised Royal Sweet Queens International for donating hospital items to the Oyoko Health Center, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery to clients.

The Royal Sweet Queens International is a women’s association based in the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, and their mandate is to give back to society and provide support for the vulnerable in the catchment area.

The association aims to champion developmental projects in the New Juaben Traditional Council, and this donation forms part of their Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).

The donated items included bedsheets, pillows, pillowcases, towels, toiletries, chairs, and an emergency medical trolley, among others.

The Oyokohene received the items and handed them over to the management of the Oyoko Health Center and implored them to make good use of them.

Nana Osei Bonsu Sempeh II said he was impressed with their kind gesture and used the opportunity to call on other associations from Oyoko to emulate the Royal Sweet Queens International.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Sweet Queens International, Felicia Boateng, said that when they launched the association in August this year, they pledged to use the money raised at the launch to support the Oyoko Health Center to enable them to render quality healthcare services to their clients, hence the donation.

She indicated that they also constructed the entrance of the Health Center to beautify the place so that when it rains, those coming to receive treatment would not walk through muddy waters to enter the facility.

Madam Boateng added that before their donation, they embarked on a massive general clean-up exercise to ensure both the inside and outside of the Health Center were clean.

“This is what we can also do to support our community’s development,” she noted.

The medical doctor of the Oyoko Health Center, Acheampong Sakyi, expressed gratitude to the association for their benevolence, saying it would improve their service delivery.

He disclosed that the facility is in dire need of a hematology analyzer and a medical incinerator.

‘If we get this equipment we won’t go to any hospital to run tests for our patient,” he expressed.

He then appealed to philanthropists, stakeholders, and NGOs to come to their aid and assist them with the equipment to enable them to run those tests at their end.

Okere MP And Okere District Assembly Sign 2-Year MoU With African Disability Policy Advocate To Train PWDs In Agriculture

The Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency in Eastern Region, Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth, together with the Okere District Assembly, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with African Disability Policy Advocate to train 50 Persons Living with Disabilities in livestock rearing and poultry farming in the district.

This 2-year contract agreement between the MP, African Disability Policy Advocate, and Okere District Assembly aims to create job opportunities for Persons with Disabilities in the area and to take them off the streets from begging for alms.

Speaking with journalists, Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth mentioned that the program is fully funded by the African Disability Policy Advocate for the next two years.

He said persons with disabilities also play a major role in nation-building, hence the country has to provide the necessary support for them to improve their living conditions.

“We will coordinate and monitor it to ensure the right people benefit from this program because the welfare of the PWDs in my constituency is my topmost priority,” he added.

The Country Director of African Disability Policy Advocate, Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, on his part, noted that this training will bring total relief to Persons Living with Disabilities in the district.

According to him, with time the number will increase to create space for more physically challenged people to partake in this initiative to help better their lives and become self-reliant in their various communities.

He revealed that the government has increased the Disability Fund and this is good news for all 261 Assemblies across the country.

He said their support will augment the existing one to expand to others who have not yet been enrolled in the program.

The District Chief Executive of the Assembly, Eric William Ayetey, stated that they will be visiting households in the district to select PWDs who are not engaged in any work and bring them to be part of the agricultural training to help them position themselves well in life and prevent them from seeking support on the roadside.

The Okere DCE reiterated his commitment to working closely with the MP to lobby for more infrastructure projects and human empowerment programs for Okereman.

Mr. Ayetey underscored the importance of teamwork, saying that championing development for the people does not depend on political affiliation.

He stressed that they are leaving no developmental projects unattended in Okere.

Woman Accused In Fatal Acid Attack Charged With Manslaughter, Family Demands Justice

A 25-year-old woman, Vera Asare, has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly pouring a substance suspected to be acid on her 27-year-old boyfriend, Daniel Omane, while he was asleep on November 29, 2024.

Daniel later died from his injuries on July 25, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The tragic incident occurred at Bonya, in the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region, where the late Daniel Omane resided.

Vera Asare is currently standing trial before the Koforidua Court. Her case was officially opened at the District Magistrate Court in Koforidua, presided over by Her Worship Nana Ama Depaa Fynn, Esq, on Monday, September 8.

Following investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Eastern Regional Police Command, the evidence gathered confirmed that the substance poured on Daniel Omane was acidic.

According to the law,  had Daniel died instantly from the acid attack, Vera Asare would have been charged with murder. However, due to the delayed death, she has been charged with manslaughter.

As the District Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction over such cases, it has referred the matter to the Koforidua High Court for continuation.

The Koforidua High Court is scheduled to commence hearings on October 13 as the suspect has been remanded in custody pending the outcome of the trial.

The Omane family, grieving the loss of their son, has expressed their hope that the law will take its full course.

Even though Daniel left behind a 3-year-old daughter with the accused person, the family insists that justice must prevail.

Emmanuel Kofi Boateng, brother of the deceased, appealed to the court to ensure justice is served so that Daniel Omane’s soul may rest peacefully in the bosom of his creator.

He emphasized that although their loved one cannot be brought back, justice is the only path toward calming nerves down and a necessary deterrent to others.

KiPCoE’s 17TH CONGREGATION CEREMONY: Principal Calls On Gov’t To Recruit More Lecturers

The Presbyterian College of Education in Kibi, located in the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region, held its 17th graduation ceremony, during which 536 students successfully graduated from the prestigious institution.

For the first time in the College’s history, among the graduating class, 125 students earned first-class honors, while 303 received second-class upper division honors. Additionally, 95 and 30 students attained second-class lower division and third-class standings, respectively.

Speaking to journalists, the Principal of the College, Rev. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah, called on the central government to recruit more lecturers to improve teaching and learning at the College.

He noted that the College is expanding, with student enrollment increasing each year where the institution has a student population of over 1,830, compared to a faculty of just over 50 lecturers, a disparity he described as ‘disguising.’

Rev. Charles Fosu-Ayarkwah further touch on transportation challenges facing the institution.

Recalled that during the launch of the ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative at SDA College of Education in Asokore, Koforidua, President John Dramani Mahama announced that the Ministry of Education was procuring 66-seater buses for the Colleges and 50 pickups for the principals across all 46 Colleges of Education nationwide to support transportation needs.

Rev. Fosu-Ayarkwah humbly reminded President Mahama that they are still awaiting the arrival of those vehicles, indicating that the ones currently in use are outdated and unsuitable for transporting trainees to schools for their teaching practicals.

The 17th congregation ceremony of the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education was held on Friday, August 29, 2025, under the theme: “Empowering the Educators: The Role of Emotional Intelligence in Shaping the Future of Teaching.”

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, commended the College’s management for the remarkable academic achievements of the 2024 graduating class.

He recalled that in 2023, only 30 students graduated with first-class honors and urged the management to continue improving academic performance. Lo and behold, he said, over 120 students earned first-class honors in 2024.

He added that he expects even greater results in future congregation ceremonies.

The keynote speaker, Professor Stephen Doe Fia, Head of the Department of Guidance and Counseling at the University of Cape Coast, advised the newly graduated teachers to practice patience when working with schoolchildren.

“It is uncalled-for to see a teacher slapping or beating a school child for wrongdoing, stating that no matter how angry you are as a teacher, note that their parents have confidence in you that you can help mold them to become a prominent person in the future, thus entrusting them under your care,” he noted.

Akwatia By-Election: NPP Gurus Shake Grounds With Mega Health Walk

Prominent figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the Akwatia constituency ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025, staging a massive health walk to signal their intent to retain the seat in honor of the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

The exercise, held on Sunday, August 17, began at Boadua Bridge, passed through principal streets in Akwatia, and concluded at the party’s constituency office.

The walk was designed to mobilize grassroots support and engage residents, rallying them to vote for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumado.

Addressing party faithful and sympathizers, National Organiser, Salam Mustapha stated that the loss of their MP was deeply painful and emphasized the party’s determination not to cede the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We are aware that the NDC is eager to snatch this seat from us by using rough tactics. We are assuring each one of you that your vote would be protected, so allay any fear and come out in your numbers on September 2, to cast your vote for Solomon Asumado to become the next Member of Parliament for Akwatia,” he said.

Solomon Kwame Asumado, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, expressed confidence in Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tetteh Yohuno that he would act professionally to ensure a peaceful, incident-free election.

He warned that should the IGP and his men fail to uphold their duties accordingly, the party would confront their officers directly, stressing their commitment to preventing bloodshed in Akwatia.

Former Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer of the NPP, Hajia Fati Vondolie, expressed faith in the electorate, noting that the people of Akwatia had witnessed the achievements of the NPP government and the late MP, Yaw Kumi, and would vote accordingly to secure the seat for Solomon Asumado.

Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Jeff Konadu Addo, urged participants to engage every household in the constituency and to encourage them to vote for Asumado on September 2 in memory of Yaw Kumi.

He cited an Akan tradition that holds that when someone dies in a family, a stranger is not brought in from outside to inherit the deceased’s property.

Therefore, he argued, the NDC is not the rightful party to occupy the seat and thus they should back off.
