Rt. Rev. A.N. Opare Kwakye, Moderator- Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye says the Government must put in place measures to resolve the 8-week (2 months) ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).

According to him, the tutors have been on strike since Friday, June 14, 2024, and this is very worrying because the colleges are yet to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rt. Rev. Opare Kwakye then made a passionate appeal on behalf of the entire Christian fraternity to the Ministry of Education, the National Labour Commission, the Fair Wages and Salary Commission, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, and the leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers of Ghana to quickly find a middle grounds and come to a settlement.

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana Moderator made this call during the 16th Congregation Ceremony of the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong, where over 400 students graduated, having read various degree programs.

The 16th Graduation of the Akropong Presbyterian College of Education was celebrated under the theme: “TEACHER LEADERSHIP: NURTURING MINDS, IMPACTING COMMUNITIES”.

He furthered by saying that the struggle between CETAG and the government has led to difficulties in post by students of the colleges in the country and appeal for a quick settlement.

Rt. Rev. Abraham Nana Kwakye indicated that it was inappropriate to leave this young person for several months without any sense of purpose.

The Principal of the College, Rev. Dr. Nicholas Apreh Siaw, also added that, unfortunately, the 62nd semester of the 2023/24 academic year has suffered massive distraction.

He mentioned that originally, the second semester was supposed to be open on 2nd June 2024 but had to be postponed for the week for certain logistics to be provided.

Rev. Dr. Apreh Siaw noted that the rescheduled academic calendar was to begin on June 9 and end on September 17, 2024, unfortunately, the reopening met with the CETAG strike which has a link for months, the strike action has almost grounded every activity on campus and it is negatively impacting teaching and learning as the academic calendar has been thrown overboard.

The School was established in 1949 and has had many successes. It has also trained many people across the length and breadth of the country.

The theme for the anniversary celebration was; “75 Years of Providing Dynamic Education: Strengthening Partnership To Promote Effective Education in the 21st Century.”

She stated that effective education is not a solo effort but a collective responsibility that requires the input of parents, teachers, students, traditional authorities, religious organizations, and the government.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the program, who doubles as the Kyedomhene of Akuapem Traditional Council, Osaberima Ansah Sesraku, advised the students to be circumspect about the lifestyle they choose and ensure that they are not swayed by friends who indulge in social vices.

He explained that indulging in drugs is not a good practice; hence, students should not embrace it because it has many negative implications, including destroying their future.

He rather urged them to take their studies seriously to become beneficial to their parents and the country as well.

For his part, the Board Chairman of the School, Dr. Frederick Anderson, said they had started two projects in the school, and he would be grateful if individuals, NGOs, and cooperating institutions help them complete these projects before the Anniversary in October 2024.

“The projects are the small water system and the laboratory facilities in the School, and when these two projects are completed, it will solve the water crisis in the school, and the students will also get a befitting laboratory for their practicals,” he mentioned.

According to him, the Benkum Senior High School lacks a lot of infrastructure projects but to their preference, they want to complete the aforementioned projects before tackling the other ones.

E/R: Hundreds Join NPP Fanteakwa South Parliamentary Candidate Anidasoɔ Health Walk

Hundreds of individuals on Sunday, August 11, 2024, joined the anidasoɔ mega health walk organized by Duke Ofori-Atta, the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Fanteakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region.

The walk kicks off at 5:00 am, begins at Abompe through the principal streets of Osino and ends at the Osino Presbyterian Senior High Technical School park.

Addressing the media, Duke Ofori-Atta said the Anidasoɔ health walk was followed by their determination to mobilize young people to enter every household and sell the achievements chopped by the Vice President and Flagbearer of NPP, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to them to vote for him convincingly in 2024 general elections to succeed the outgoing President Akufo Addo.

“I believe that Ghanaians will look at the numerous policies, programs, social interventions, and infrastructure projects the NPP government has done in the last 7 years and give us another opportunity to serve them and break the 8-year jinx and give hope to the youth of the country,” he said.

Speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, the NPP Eastern Regional Volunteers Connect Coordinator, Abigail Agyare Owusuwaa, who is popularly known as Empress 1, stated that should the youth in NPP get involved in the December 7 polls, breaking the 8 would be feasible.

“If the youth in our party said when they came to power in 2017 they didn’t get anything and stayed away from the campaign, the NDC youth would go and do the work to bring back former President John Mahama to power, and the situation would be worse,” she noted.

She then appealed to the youth to let every difference be at rest and let bygones be bygone and rather rally behind the party to retain power in 2024.

She believed that should Dr. Bawumia be voted into power as President, he would address all their grievances and further provide them with employment opportunities.

Furthermore, the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South District Assembly, Ernest Ofosu, added that the 2024 elections mean a lot to the NPP, and they cannot afford to lose it to the NDC.

He mentioned that President Nana Addo and Dr. Alhaji Bawumia’s government has performed better across all the 261 assemblies in the country when it comes to developmental projects and job creation; hence Ghanaians should maintain them in power to continue their good works.

NDC Hit At Akufo Addo Over Poor Road Networks In Eastern Region

Kwadwo Dankwa, NDC Comm. Officer- E/R.

The Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region in a press conference held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, bared teeth at President Nana Addo over the deterioration of roads in the region.

According to them, President Akufo Addo, Abena Osei Asare, who is the Minister of State in charge of Finance, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Kwasi Amoako Atta, former Roads and Highway Minister, among other prominent persons, all hail from the region.

However these dignitaries have failed to use their respective office to get the poor road networks fixed.

They added that the aforementioned names are in the contention of the road construction and allocation of funds for sale, and they are the key decision-makers when it comes to road construction.

“These leaders who should have been champions for their region have instead prioritized their interests, leaving behind a legacy of neglect and mismanagement,” they opined.

The Press Conference was addressed by Kwadjo Dankwa, their regional Communications Officer.

The following constituencies are suffering from the same poor road networks: Fanteakwa South and North, Nkawkaw, Ofoase Ayiribi, Afram Plains North and South, Kade, Akim Swedru, Mpraeso, New Juaben South and North, Abuakwa North, Lower and Upper Manya Krobo, and Abetifi among other constituencies, they highlighted.

“Meanwhile, President Akufo Addo has constructed and asphalted all the roads in his hometown, Kyebi leaving the above constituencies in the region suffering from the bad roads.”

The Press Conference was dubbed: “EASTERN MUST KNOW”.

Kwadjo Dankwa added that during the recent uninspiring tour by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the region, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Acheampong, repeatedly said the NPP will use every means to win the 2024 elections including stealing the mandate of the people

“A question many of his constituents are desperately seeking answers to is why he is not channeling his negative energy into developing the dilapidated road networks and other infrastructure in his constituency to lessen the burden on his people,” he noted.

He stated that if Bryan Acheampong claims to be a man, he should get all the poor road networks in his constituency fixed and stop deceiving himself of winning the December 7 polls in every means because those plans won’t succeed.

Airbus Case: OSP Ruling Vindicate Mahama’s Incorruptible Traits… NDC’s Hackman

Hackman Kabore, NDC Organizer, E/R

The Eastern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hackman Kabore, says that the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) ruling on the Airbus case shows that former President John Dramani and flagbearer of the party is a leader to be trusted due to his incorruptible traits.

According to him, members of the NDC always hold John Dramani Mahama in high esteem, with the contention that his innocence in any bribery allegations remains apt.

He indicated further that the development is also vindicative of NDC communicators who strongly argued that the former statesman did not ascend to the presidential seat to amass wealth for himself and his family.

“To God be the Glory, the office of Special Prosecutor was established by President Akufo Addo and appointed Kissi Agyabeng, who has every power to indict Mahama, came out and said that he is clean in the procurement of the two military aircraft for the country,” he said.

Mr. Kabore, who was speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, added that he is elated over the ruling to see the NDC leader declared of any wrongdoings.

He seized the opportunity and urged Ghanaians to use the ruling as a case study and vote massively for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming December 7 polls to become the next President of Ghana.

According to him, the NPP had wanted to use the Airbus scandal to campaign against John Mahama for votes; however, the twist in the event will make their work very difficult.

Let’s Appreciate Teachers Over Success Chalked In 2023 WASSCE…Rev. Ntim Fordjour

The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour has attributed the country’s incredible performance recorded in the 2023 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to the contributions of its outstanding teachers.

He stated since the inception of the WASSCE, the country has not recorded a 50% pass mark with a score of A1 to C6 in the core subjects, i.e., English Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.

The minister, however, noted that jinx was broken in 2020 with the first graduates of the free SHS policy achieving the feat where a minimum of 50% of the students had A1 to C6 in core subjects.

Mr. Ntim Fordjour indicated that the 2023 WASSCE result shows the best the country had recorded in the history of the WASSCE. He explained that 76% of the students had A1 to C4 in Social Studies, 73% obtained A1 to C4 in English Language, 62% secured A1 to C4 in Mathematics, and 63% were also scored in Integrated Science.

Speaking further the Deputy Education Minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Assin South in the Central Region, said the efforts and dedication of the teacher(s) who ensured such achievement was attainable must be recommended rather than undermining the success of these students.

Rev. Fordjour made this known on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Koforidua during the Eastern Regional Education Directorate’s 2024 Outstanding Achievement Awards for its staff under the theme: INSPIRING CHANGE: RECOVERY BEGINS WITH TEACHERS.

The Regional Education Director, Ivy Asantewa Owusu (PhD), underscores the roles of teachers, adding that ‘teachers were born to inspire, change to embrace, change to create and change to change the world.’

“We believe that the child today is the groundbreaker tomorrow and the mold in which they are incubated and formed is the heart of that great outstanding education worker,” added Ivy Owusu.

AWARD SCHEME

A 40-year-old Economics tutor of the Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO) in Akyim Kyebi, Terkpertey Michael Tetteh, was crowned the ultimate winner of the 2024 Eastern Regional Ghana Education Service (GES) Outstanding Achievement Award.

He walked home with a brand-new Toyota Yaris saloon car as the ultimate prize for the winner.

Michael Tetteh is married with 3 kids and has taught for 15 year.

Expressing his delightfulness, Mr. Terkpertey said “I boarded Trotro to the program, but here I am driving my own car home, and this should tell us that there is a reward in the teaching profession,” he told KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH.

For his part, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Emmanuel Adow Obeng, who chaired the program, entreated the government to invest in teachers and provide them with the needed resources coupled with support, and respect that deemed their sacrifices and efforts in pushing them to deliver their core mandate as expected.

I’m Grateful To President Akufo Addo…Protozoa

Frank Asiedu BEKOE, PC- Suhum Constituency.

The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Frank Asiedu Bekoe affectionately called ‘Protozoa‘ has shown his heartfelt gratitude to President Nana Addo, Chief of Staff, Akosua Fremah Osei Opare, and the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for making him who he is today.

According to him, being nicknamed MPEGYAHENE in the area reflects his massive support from the aforementioned people and dignitaries, hence, his handwriting with developmental projects in the area.

“For Suhumman to see more of these infrastructure projects and continue creating more jobs for the people in the area as well as to save Ghana from moving backward it is important for everybody especially the youth to get involved in the upcoming December 7 polls to vote for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to become the next President,” he pleaded.

Protozoa described former President and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, as driver banza ( a bad driver), indicating that Ghanaians have seen his leadership style before and therefore mistakenly handing him the ‘nation’s car’ will be a doom for the people.

Frank Asiedu Bekoe added that looking at the work the NPP government has executed in the last 7 years, they deserve continuation to make the country further better.

“While the visionary leader, Dr. Bawumia is creating more job opportunities for the youth especially, the kayayeis to eliminate them from the streets but the only support former President John Dramani Mahama could offer them was to give them pans to keep on carrying things in the markets without thinking about their future that is why Ghanaians should kick against his second coming because such person doesn’t qualify to lead the country as President,” he noted.

Protozoa made these remarks at the Suhum main lorry station on Friday, August 9, when the flagbearer of NPP, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the constituency as part of his tour of the Eastern Region.

His statement was borne out of contention as to why Ghanaians must overlook John Mahama and vote for Dr. Bawumia come December 7.

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region who doubles as the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, said although Dr. Bawumia was initially disturbed after Protozoa unseated the incumbent MP, Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante in the primaries, he had to take immediate action to ensure peace that disunity does not tear the party apart.

“To ensure peace and unity among them, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia went to Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante’s residence and assured him that if he was elected as President, he wouldn’t forget about him in his government and urged him to let the bygones be bygone and rally behind the party to retain power in 2024.

Again, to set the record straight, Dr. Bryan Acheampong said it is not true that Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante is planning to contest the Suhum parliamentary seat as an independent candidate, as some people are speculating per the dialogue he had with him on camera.
