Suhum MP Goes Independent In 2024 Election After Snubbing NPP

The New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante, has finally declared his intention to contest independently in the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

On Sunday, July 28, 2024, friends of Ɔboafo embarked on a mega health walk in the constituency, and after the exercise, they petitioned him to contest the December polls as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate, avoid their planned decision to absent themselves from the coming polls.

The secretary to the MP, Isaac Asiedu received the petition letter on his behalf and assured them that at the appropriate time, Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante would come out and respond to their letter.

In the latest development on Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Member of Parliament of the constituency organized the same mega health walk where the principal streets of Suhum were flooded by the constituents.

In his address after the exercise, Ɔboafo Asante thanked the crowd for their massive support and recognized his efforts of doing a lot of uncountable infrastructure projects in the area and pleading with him to go independent despite losing the parliamentary primaries.

“I can’t disappoint the larger number of the constituents who have seen my handwriting across the Constituency and asking me to contest the 2024 elections as an independent Parliamentary Candidate, likewise the delegates,” he stated.

Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante then mentioned that it was an honor for the entire constituents to back him to go independent; therefore he will be contesting the 2024 general elections as an independent Parliamentary Candidate for Suhum Constituency to continue his works.

He further said he would continue to do developmental projects for Suhumman if he remained as the lawmaker of the area.

After the declaration, the constituents couldn’t hide their excitement, saying they could now have a good sleep because that was what they were expected of Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante.

They told DL FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH that, this should send a signal to the NPP delegates that they can’t decide for the entire constituents whom they want to become their Parliamentary Candidate.

“We won’t allow Ɔboafo Kwadjo Asante to just go like that because none of our previous MPs has performed better like him since assuming office in 2021, and we can’t afford to lose him in Parliament, hence pleading with him to go independent for us,” they recounted.

Adawso: Stop Paying Tax To Akuapem North Assembly…Chiefs To Market Women

Traditional Authorities in Adawso in Akuapem North of the Eastern Region have embarked on a peaceful demonstration over the lack of developmental projects in the area.

According to them, Adawso is confronted with a lot of challenges, mentioning that their market is deteriorating and if care is not taken one day, it will collapse and cause disaster in the area.

They added that their roads are also in a sorry state and have lodged a lot of complaints to the Assembly, but the situation still remains the same.

“The management of the Assembly says they don’t get anything from Adawso that is why they have abandoned our town to be destroyed,” they opined.

For this reason, the Apesemakahene of Adawso, Nana Ntow Amirekyi, through the demonstration, has ordered the market women in the area not to pay any tax to the Assembly again because they don’t benefit from the revenue mobilization the Assembly has been collecting over the past years.

Nana Ntow Amirekyi told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH that they will put in place measures to see how best they can collect revenues themselves and use the money to develop the area since the Assembly has turned a deaf ear to their challenges.

“Adawso market generates a lot of income for the Assembly, yet still, we can’t pinpoint a single project the Assembly has done for us,” he said.

He further stated that the only option that would make them allow the Assembly to continue collecting the tax from the market women is when they see them fixing their plight. Other than that, they should forget about staking tickets to the market women in the area.”

For her, the Adawso Abontendomhemaa, Nana Afua Gyekabea, said that she supports the directives given to the market women by the Apesemakahene, indicating that if the Assembly says they have staged a demonstration against them so they won’t fix their roads and deteriorating market for them, it’s okay.

“But we will advise ourselves because we have been taking it for granted for a very long time,” she added.

The market women, after hearing the news, thanked the Adawso Traditional rulers for the decision taken, saying the Assembly has been collecting tax from them, but they don’t know what they use the money for.

Hundreds Of NPP Supporters Walk With Dr. Kingsley Agyemang

It was all joy with an electrifying atmosphere as the streets of Akooko and Asafo, dominated by the traditional NPP’s Red, White, and Blue colors, occasioned a mega health walk with Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, the Parliamentary Candidate for Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region.

The exercise, which pulled hundreds of crowds predominantly by faithful of the ruling New Patriotic Party, was to energize the fans ahead of the DECEMBER 7 polls.

Speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, the MP hopeful said among all other factors, the need to energize the party’s fan base in the area was key to enabling them to preach the good work done to the people and also to maintain them to do more for Ghanaians.

He noted members of the ruling party must be proud of its achievements because they have proven doubters wrong, especially the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, when the NPP made a promise to implement the Free SHS policy in 2016, the NDC opposed it strongly and described it as unrealistic; however, after coming to power, they made its implementation a reality for the benefit of every child.

“We are working hard to break the 8-year jinx. Our opponents can continue tickling themselves and laughing, and it will take them by surprise that NPP will be declared the winners of the 2024 elections, and it will shock them like how we make the free SHS policy possible,” he stressed.

Dr. Kingsley Agyeman mentioned that the NPP has performed better and they can’t afford to lose the December 7 polls to the NDC to come and ride on their success.

Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, owing to this, believes the NPP deserves to be retained rather than resting the future of the country in the hands of the NDC, whose leader, John Mahama, lacks credibility.

He further questioned why Mr. Mahama, who is a former president, would be seeking reelection, having made remarks that raised concerns about the credibility of his presidential bid.

“Mahama says 4 years is not good for him, so why is he contesting the 2024 elections unless he is coming to capsize the country’s constitution in his favor and allow him to extend the 4 years mandatory grace period given to every President into office other than that, he should exit from the Presidential race,” he added.

The Assemblyman for the Asafo electoral area, who doubles as the Presiding Member for the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly, Amoako Atta, added that though there have been concerns amongst the majority of Ghanaians about hardship in the country the NDC is not an option to address it.

He indicated that the NDC has nothing new to offer Ghanaians, and it amounts to an insult asking the public for reelection to assume power again.

E/R: Hundreds Join NPP Fanteakwa South Parliamentary Candidate Anidasoɔ Health Walk

Hundreds of individuals on Sunday, August 11, 2024, joined the anidasoɔ mega health walk organized by Duke Ofori-Atta, the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Fanteakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region.

The walk kicks off at 5:00 am, begins at Abompe through the principal streets of Osino and ends at the Osino Presbyterian Senior High Technical School park.

Addressing the media, Duke Ofori-Atta said the Anidasoɔ health walk was followed by their determination to mobilize young people to enter every household and sell the achievements chopped by the Vice President and Flagbearer of NPP, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to them to vote for him convincingly in 2024 general elections to succeed the outgoing President Akufo Addo.

“I believe that Ghanaians will look at the numerous policies, programs, social interventions, and infrastructure projects the NPP government has done in the last 7 years and give us another opportunity to serve them and break the 8-year jinx and give hope to the youth of the country,” he said.

Speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, the NPP Eastern Regional Volunteers Connect Coordinator, Abigail Agyare Owusuwaa, who is popularly known as Empress 1, stated that should the youth in NPP get involved in the December 7 polls, breaking the 8 would be feasible.

“If the youth in our party said when they came to power in 2017 they didn’t get anything and stayed away from the campaign, the NDC youth would go and do the work to bring back former President John Mahama to power, and the situation would be worse,” she noted.

She then appealed to the youth to let every difference be at rest and let bygones be bygone and rather rally behind the party to retain power in 2024.

She believed that should Dr. Bawumia be voted into power as President, he would address all their grievances and further provide them with employment opportunities.

Furthermore, the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South District Assembly, Ernest Ofosu, added that the 2024 elections mean a lot to the NPP, and they cannot afford to lose it to the NDC.

He mentioned that President Nana Addo and Dr. Alhaji Bawumia’s government has performed better across all the 261 assemblies in the country when it comes to developmental projects and job creation; hence Ghanaians should maintain them in power to continue their good works.

NDC Hit At Akufo Addo Over Poor Road Networks In Eastern Region

Kwadwo Dankwa, NDC Comm. Officer- E/R.

The Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region in a press conference held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, bared teeth at President Nana Addo over the deterioration of roads in the region.

According to them, President Akufo Addo, Abena Osei Asare, who is the Minister of State in charge of Finance, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Kwasi Amoako Atta, former Roads and Highway Minister, among other prominent persons, all hail from the region.

However these dignitaries have failed to use their respective office to get the poor road networks fixed.

They added that the aforementioned names are in the contention of the road construction and allocation of funds for sale, and they are the key decision-makers when it comes to road construction.

“These leaders who should have been champions for their region have instead prioritized their interests, leaving behind a legacy of neglect and mismanagement,” they opined.

The Press Conference was addressed by Kwadjo Dankwa, their regional Communications Officer.

The following constituencies are suffering from the same poor road networks: Fanteakwa South and North, Nkawkaw, Ofoase Ayiribi, Afram Plains North and South, Kade, Akim Swedru, Mpraeso, New Juaben South and North, Abuakwa North, Lower and Upper Manya Krobo, and Abetifi among other constituencies, they highlighted.

“Meanwhile, President Akufo Addo has constructed and asphalted all the roads in his hometown, Kyebi leaving the above constituencies in the region suffering from the bad roads.”

The Press Conference was dubbed: “EASTERN MUST KNOW”.

Kwadjo Dankwa added that during the recent uninspiring tour by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the region, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Acheampong, repeatedly said the NPP will use every means to win the 2024 elections including stealing the mandate of the people

“A question many of his constituents are desperately seeking answers to is why he is not channeling his negative energy into developing the dilapidated road networks and other infrastructure in his constituency to lessen the burden on his people,” he noted.

He stated that if Bryan Acheampong claims to be a man, he should get all the poor road networks in his constituency fixed and stop deceiving himself of winning the December 7 polls in every means because those plans won’t succeed.
