“I Will Flush Out The Illegal Miners In Fanteakwa”… DCE Threatens

Mr. Ernest Ofosu, DCE- Fanteakwa South District Assembly.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Fanteakwa South District Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mr. Ernest Ofosu, has threatened to chase out all the illegal miners in the district.

According to the DCE, there is many mining companies in the Fanteakwa South but most of them are not operating legally.

The reclamation 15 acres of land.

Therefore, he sees their activities to be destroying most water bodies in the area.

Mr. Ofosu adds, they have had a lot of meetings with the miners and warned them to do a genuine work to ensure no water bodies in the area get affected but they seems to be doing the opposite.

With this, he said, starting Monday, June 13, 2022, they are going to make the area uncomfortable for those who mines around the river banks in the District, such as Birim river, Aguso river, and Akleso river.

“I will arrest and put them before court and tell the court why they are destroying the water bodies.”

He told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH during a green Ghana project where his district is targeted of planting 400,000 tree seedlings. But they planted over 2,000 tree seedlings.

The programme took place at one of the Kibi Gold Field Company Limited’s reclamation 15 acres of lands. Some selected schools in the district also joined the greening Ghana project.

The Managing Director of Kibi Gold Field Company Limited, Dr. Kofi Agyemang also however emphasized that their firm is practising a good system of clamation in which they have reclaimed 15 acres of land for other plantation programmes.

“So when the Forestry Commission, District Assembly and the Chiefs of Fanteakwa South came to see us that they are coming to plant trees quickly we released the reclamation 15acres of land for them to be used for the planting”, he stated.

Dr. Kofi Agyemang justified by noting that, their operations are done without the use of chemicals during mining.

Chief of Osino, Osabarima Otu Darko IV thus; warned that any illegal miner [galamseyers] who would be arrested shall be dealt with the law.

He indicated that mining in the area have brought no development to the area whereas the uncover pits has claimed the lives of children.

In conclusion, Osabarima Otu Darko pointed out that henceforth, land reclamation would be use to plant consumable crops like cocoyam due to their fast growing status.

Green Ghana Project: Eastern Region Targets Over 2 Million Plantations

Nana Opoku Bosompim, Forestry Commission Manager- Eastern Region.

Nana Opoku Bosompim, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission have disclosed that, the region is targeted to plant 2.5 million tree seedlings on June 10, 2022 as part of the second phase of the Green Ghana Project.

The Ghana project introduced by Prez Nana Addo in 2021 saw the country planted over 5m tree seedlings to ensure the destroyed forest by illegal miners get its shape to protect our water bodies.

According to the regional manager, over 3m plant seedlings are available at their seven forestry districts in the region.

He offered that whoever is in need of seedlings to plant can proceed to the any of the forestry districts and claim it.

He said, they have timber species, ornamentals, militia, and economic trees ( mango, coconut, orange).

“One can get its free tree seedlings from the following districts; Kyebi, Donkokrom, Somanya, Oda, Kade, Mpraeso, and Begoro including their regional office in Koforidua”, he said.

To emphasised, he explained that the tree seedlings are given on free basis and are not for sale.

Nana Opoku Bosompim who made these known to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH added that the entire country is expected to plant 20m tree seedlings on June 10, 2022.

He continue by disclosing, that about 700,000 seedlings were targeted in 2021 and with much efforts they exceeded it by planting over 900,000 tree seedlings.

Meanwhile the national level also is targeted of planting 5m tree seedlings of the phase one.

Nana Bosompim adds, the eastern regional forestry commission together with other agencies have assessed the survival rate of the tree seedlings that were planted in 2021 and can confirm that over 80% is in good shape.

He then entreated the general public to join the second phase of the Greening Ghana project on 10th June, 2022 to help plant more trees to safeguard the forest as well as the water bodies being destroyed by illegal chainsaw operators and the illegal miners.

“Invest In Nurses And Midwives To Achieve The Universal Healthcare”…Dr. Abrah To Gov’t

The Vice Principal of Nurses and Midwives Training College in Koforidua in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region, Dr. Mrs. Phyllis Abrah has indicate, Nurses and Midwives have demonstrated that given the needed education, can deliver tremendously to support the health system in the country.

This, according to her, a study conducted in Europe, a 10% increase in the number of nurses with a bachelor’s degree is related with a 7% reduction in mortality.

Something she admitted have demonstrated how patients had improved health outcomes, including a considerable reduction in mortality.

Dr. Mrs. Abrah adds, if we want to achieve the universal health care, then the Ghana Gov’t must invest in Nurses and Midwives who are expert in infection control, infectious diseases, and many other areas.

“We must also remove the evident impediment to the advancement of nursing and midwifery education in our country’s health sector.”

She made these call during the Launching of the Eastern Regional International Nurses and Midwives Week on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Nsawam Adoagyire, with the theme: “NURSES AND MIDWIVES: A VOICE TO LEAD- INVEST IN NURSING AND RESPECT RIGHT TO SECURE GLOBAL HEALTH,”

She also noted that another area of concern is investing in nursing jobs, access to healthcare is essential for society to be safe, secure, prosperous, and equitable, but it can’t be done without enough nurses and midwives to deliver the necessary treatment.

On behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, the MCE for Nsawam Adoagyire Municipal Assembly, Isaac Kwadwo Boabeng said, it is time for practitioners in the noble profession to reflect on activities over the period: the challenges and opportunities it presented, how to improve upon their services going forward in order to preserve lives and built confidence in their patients.

“The relevance of the one week celebration can’t be overemphasized, and the importance of the nursing profession has been reflective in the recent fight against COVID-19 as well as working tirelessly to save and protect lives in our various communities,” he hinted.

In addition, the Eastern Regional Chairman for Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Rev. Hayford Laryea expressed worried at which the well trained Ghanaian health professionals are traveling abroad to seek greene pastures.

He observed that more than 2,500 nurses have left the shores of the country, a situation he described as very disturbing.

Thus, Rev. Hayford Laryea projected a likelihood of shortage of nurses and midwives in the country in year’s to come if leaders don’t address the menace.

NPP Delegates Conference: Jeff Konadu Addo Wins Eastern Regional Chairmanship Position

The NPP Chairmanship race of the Eastern Region was decided by delegates on Saturday, May 28, 2022, by voting massively for Jeff Konadu Addo to give him the nod over Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang.

The delegates conference which was held at Koforidua National Cultural Centre saw Jeff Konadu putting his keen competitor to his deserving position.

Out of the 621 total valid votes cast, Mr. Konadu Addo, a former regional secretary of the party had 424 votes whiles Mr. Kwadwo Boateng, former chairman for the New Juaben North Constituency garnered 202 votes.

Speaking after the conference, the newly elected chairman, Jeff Konadu Addo thanked all and sundry who fought hard for his victory especially his indefatigable campaign team.

He also congratulated his colleagues executives members elect, mentioning that they have a big task by ensuring they achieve it to help break the eight years jinx.

Moreover, the national officer of the NPP, Mr. Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah who supervised the elections urged the losers not to give up but rather assist the new executives to acquire victory in the 2024 general elections.

Abuakwa South: Newly Elected NPP Executives Worship With Presbyterian Church,Ghana

Newly elected Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa South, on Sunday, May 22, 2022, joined the Presbyterian Church, Ghana, the Ebenezer Congregation at Obronikrom in Kyebi to worship with them.

The move was aimed to thanked God following their victory in the constituency polls.

Speaking to the media, the 2nd vice chairman of the constituency, Nana Kofi Fredua, admitted how good and faithful God had been to them in their journey amid securing their triumph therefore deserves to be thankful.

According to him, during their campaign tour, they onboard vehicles without anything bad happened to them; thus there is the need to thank God and praise his name.

To add with, Nana Fredua assured of hard work to ensure Abuakwa South restore its past lost glory in terms of development.

He continue by ensuring to help build upon the already existence peace in the NPP Abuakwa South.

OPASS Unit School: “We Have Challenges”…. Headmistress Complain

The Unit headmistress of OPASS Primary School for the Special Children Unit, Madam Charity Yaa Otu has expressed her displeasure over challenges facing the institution.

The OPASS Unit School for the Special Children take care of different categories of disabled children; such as down syndrom, autistics, cerebral palsy, and etc.

According to Madam Yaa Otu, it is the only school that cater for both children from the Abuakwa North and South Constituency respectively.

Adding that, they need spacious classrooms and boarding house that can accommodate students.

“Because of the school doesn’t have enough facility to accommodate such children, parents are keeping them at home. Should the school have its own school bus that can convey them to school and take them back home, many parent wouldn’t have kept or hide their children at home” she noted.

Mrs. Charity Yaa Otu told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI when the MP of the Abuakwa North Constituency, Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo was celebrating her 6years anniversary as a lawmaker with them.

Madam Yaa Otu ceased the opportunity to appeal to the MP, gov’t, philanthropist, individuals, stakeholders to come to their aid by getting them the bus or the school facility.

She observe that, such special children also deserves quality education to better their future.

Responding to their plight, Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo said, arrangement is underway to get them spacious classroom with learning materials the children would need for their studies.

The MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of TVET, thus admonished parents of such wards to be proud and also charge them to cultivate the manner of taking them to hospital for a regular check ups.

She urged the society to stop maltreating such children but rather show them love since they are also human being like any other person.

In her visitation to the school, she gave them toiletries, detergents, diapers, powered soap, antibiotics drugs. Afterward, she proceeded to dine with them.

“MPs Do Not Construct Roads But Only Lobbies For It”….MP Laments

Foreman briefing Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo on ongoing project.

Mrs Gifty Twum Ampofo, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, has lamented that, MPs does not use their resources for road construction but rather lobbies for it.

According to her, Ghana’s resources is very limited and can’t reach everybody at the same time, therefore constituents needs a hard working Member of Parliament to lobbied for infrastructure and many other important projects.

Mrs. Twum Ampofo who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of TVET adds, she started lobbying for deplorable roads in her constituency to get it fixed in 2020.

Adding that, in 2022, the minister responsible for roads and highways gave the greenlight for the road to be constructed.

She said, she is grateful to Prez Akufo-Addo and his Roads Minister, Mr. Kwasi Amoako Atta for what they have done for the good people of Abuakwa North.

“Most of my constituents got peeved at me because of the nature of the poor roads network in my constituency especially the drivers” she admitted.

She told the media during a visit to the site to inspect the ongoing construction of the 14km road network which start from Tafo Engen junction through to Akim Old Tafo to Akim Kukurantumi.

The field supervisor for General Construction Limited, Mr. Eric Agyemang indicated that he is optimistic that, the project will be completed by the end of the year 2022.

He thus observed that, they have so far done 10% of the work.

Mr. Agyemang then pleaded with those whose waterlines have been affected by their work to give them some periods to fixed it back for them.

“Poor Conditionalities Making Our Make Difficult”…..K. Y. Nyassingbe

The Eastern Regional Chairperson of Midwives Group, Kathelyn Yaa Nyassigbe has said, many midwives don’t want to go and work at the remote areas because they encounter a lot of challenges over there.

She adds, gov’t is doing everything possible to push more midwives to the hard to reach areas to help the pregnant women in those villages to deliver peacefully, but that is not enough.

Mrs. Yaa Nyassingbe explained, sometimes working at the remote areas is very difficult. But when there is incentives and good social amenities available to them, it motive them to work hard.

Mrs. Kathelyn Yaa Nyassingbe told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH when celebrating their 2022 International Midwives’ Day on a theme: dubbed ” MIDWIVES, A VOICE TO LEAD IN THE MIDST OF CHALLENGES OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM”.

She stressed, nobody would like to work under poor condition of service and expected that person to deliver. She then urged the gov’t to come to their aid because they are really suffering.

She further revealed that, the Ghanaian midwives are doing so excellently well but their salaries is too small

Mrs. Nyassingbe adds, when someone is working from the bottom of his or her heart to safe two people’s live [mother and baby] and in the end their salaries is not enough, it demoralized the them.

Mrs. Kathelyn Nyassingbe then appealed to the gov’t to do something about the salaries of midwives.

In addition, Rev. Hayford Laryea, the Eastern Regional Chairman for Ghana Registered Nurses And Midwives Association also congratulate the midwives across Ghana for their hardwork.

He said, there is a lot of challenges confronting midwives especially those who work at the remote areas.

Rev. Laryea adds, because of those who work at the remote areas don’t have time to go for fresher programmes, they ceased the opportunity to give them training on how to monitor and take good care of the pregnant women till they delivered.

New Juaben South: Two NPP’s Incumbent Executives Suffers Heavy Defeat With Over 600 Votes Each

Mr. Charles Osei Opoku, a worker at Ghana Cocoa Board has defeated Mr. Kwame Boamah Dwira, the incumbent Chairman for NPP in the New Juaben South Constituency of the Eastern Region to claimed the chairmanship seat with 670 votes.

Mr. Kwame Boamah Dwira obtained 161 votes ( incumbent) whiles Mr. Charles Osei Opoku also polls out 831 votes in their just ended Constituency Executives Elections. Out of the expected 1012 delegates, only 992 cast their vote.

Speaking with Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, Mr. Osei Opoku gave thanks to God for given him the victory. He also show appreciation to the delegates who had confidence in him and voted him as their new constituency chairman.

He said, breaking the 8 won’t come on a silver platter but rather it requires a hard work, therefore it will need the services of everyone on board to make it a reality.

Mr. Charles Opoku adds, NPP is the only gov’t that can develop Ghana thus he urged Ghanaians to maintain them in power come 2024 general elections to continue their good works.

Meanwhile, in the position of the Treasurer another humiliated result occurred.

The incumbent treasurer, Silas Agyekum also lost heavily to Daniel Opoku. Out of the 991 total vote cast, Mr. Daniel Opoku obtained 841 as against that of Mr. Silas Agyekum 152.

Speaking with Kingdom News, the newly elected treasurer, Mr. Opoku said, the key objective of treasurer is to mobilize funds for the grassroot members and that is exactly what he has targeted.

He also said, he has opened an account with 200₵ as seed money for all the 34 electoral areas in the New Juaben South Constituency.

A situation he described as, the welfare of the people is his priority.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has boycotted this year’s Edil-Fitir worship that was held to climax the Ramadan fasting periods observed by Muslims globally.

The worship ceremony was staged at the Koforidua Central Mosque.

The Ramadan which was scheduled to kick start on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 9:00am, started at about 9:45 am following the Minister’s expectance.

However, with his inability to avail himself to grace the occasion, he fails to assigned anyone in his absence.

To worsen matters, the MCE for New Juaben South, Isaac Appaw Gyasi and his MP, Michael Okyere Baafi who were also expected failed to show up.

Responding to the development, the aid to the Minister, Rockson, said, it was not a deliberate move because, Mr. Acheampong had an emergency call where he had to attend to an equally important duty at Mampong in the Akuapem South Municipality.

The Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Yusif Amudani Suleman after the worship prayed and asked for peace for the Nation.
