E/R: Australian Teenager Constructs JHS Edifice For Asempaneyɛ

A 20-year-old teenager from Australia, Barbara Anna Beck has through education extended her support to the people of Asempaneye, a suburb of Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The gesture of the Australian who doubles as a philanthropist comes after commissioning a newly built fully funded edifice that will serve as a classroom block for Junior High School (JHS) students.

The commissioning of the facility to house students of JHS One and Two took place at Asempaneye, a suburb of Tinkong was joined by the Mawerehene of the area, Osuodumgya Yaw Gyebaah, Akuapem North MCE, Berima Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi, the School Management among other dignitaries.

In 2022, the project donor on a tour of Ghana came across the plight of Asempaneye residents where their only primary school established in the 1970s has no JHS block thus children who complete basic school level are compelled to walk far distances to enable them access JHS education.

Barbara Anna Beck was thus touched by the situation and decided to construct a JHS block for the people with a fully furnished library and headmaster’s office to enhance teaching and learning in the area.

Speaking at a brief ceremony during the commissioning, the 20-year-old Australian philanthropist expressed her excitement over the development, adding that the burden of the residents most particularly school children is now considered a thing of the past.

According to her, education has become key and significant to humanity, therefore, it requires the provision of quality education to all and sundry.

“Education is one important aspect of human rights and responsibilities for everyone to be able to learn how to read and write,” Babara Anna opined.

She noted that putting up this JHS edifice for the people of Asempaneye to help improve the education in the community is dear to her.

The Headmistress of the Asempaneye Basic School, Ruby Esinam Glova on behalf of the school management showed her appreciation to the donor and her team for the kind gesture.

She appealed to the government, philanthropists, and individuals to come to their aid by following the footsteps of Babara Anna to construct a building to serve as the JHS 3 block.

Madam Esinam Glova who took over the school with a population of 32 in September 2013 was happy that her efforts and sacrifices made to ensure the growth of the school have finally paid off since the current rise in enrollment is a testament.

Among her efforts and gestures included providing learning materials such as books, pencils, pens, erasers, uniforms, sandals, and food for needy students just to create an atmosphere of punctuality.

On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Berima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi pleaded with parents in Asempaneye and its environment to take a keen interest in their wards’ education by providing them all the needed educational materials to bolster their level of acquiring knowledge for a better future.

New Juan South: NPP Women’s Wing Donates Sanitary Pads To Students

At New Juaben Senior High School

The New Patriotic Party’s Women’s Wing in the New Juaben South Constituency of the Eastern Region as part of the observation of the World Menstruation Hygiene Day donated 10 boxes of sanitary pads to each of the selected schools in the constituency.

The beneficiary schools are; Apempoa Islamic Primary School, New Juaben Senior High School, Trom Nyerede M/A Basic School, Ascension Presbyterian M/A Basic School ‘A’, Pentecost Senior High School, and St. Dominic Catholic Basic School.

The women’s wing also educated the female students on how to keep themselves clean as well as where to dispose of the sanitary pads after using them.

However, they urged the boys against the stigmatization and teasing of their colleague female students when they see them soiling themselves because it is not an abomination for a young girl to be menstruation.

Speaking to Kingdom News, the Woman Organizer for New Juaben South Constituency, Regina Bempong who spearheaded the program noted that the meaningful of their visit complemented the donation gesture on such an important day.

According to her, one of their goals is to that the issue of sanitary pads among teenagers does not affect their academics as they would love to see these girls rise to become influential in active politics in the country.

John Huckson Arthur, who spoke on behalf of the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi stated that the stigmatization among women when menstruating in the olden days led to polygamy marriages.

“In those days when a woman was menstruating, they were not allowed to share things with their husbands, and the husbands had to go and stay with their siblings, but those practices were uncalled-for.”

He added, “Many women who could have led in politics in Ghana dropped out of school because they soiled themselves and their colleagues teased them that is why Michael Okyere Baafi has partnered with his women’s wings and have taken it upon themselves to educate both the male and female students in his constituency to understand that menstruation is not a taboo.”

A situation, he indicated does not want to reoccur because Ghana needs more women to indulge in partisan politics to help transform the country.

Some beneficiary students of New Juaben Senior High School thanked the women’s wing for their kind gesture and pleaded with the government to abolish the taxes on sanitary pads because the prices of pads have become expensive nowadays.

Limited Voter Registration: Two Days Extension Not Enough…Atiwa West DCE

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa West District Assembly in the Eastern Region, Paddy Amponsah Douglas says the Electoral Commission’s two-day extension to the limited voter registration exercise is not enough.

He applauded the commission for their decision but was quick to express his disappointment about the extension days as he felt one week could have been more essential.

Mr. Amponsah Douglas, according to him, the registration exercise is very important to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) because every political party needs numbers to win elections and these numbers would come from nowhere but eligible voters who are registered members to enable them to exercise their franchise in the 2024 election.

He added that they will put in much effort to make sure that those who have turned 18 years and above and have traveled outside the constituency return home and register to vote for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to become the next President of Ghana come 2025.

Explaining why the NPP deserves another term the DCE said “President Akufo Addo has done a lot for Ghana and he has to hand the baton to Dr. Bawumia to come and continue his good work, not someone who will come and destroy his legacy.’

The registration exercise which commenced on May 7 was to come to an end on 27 but due to technical challenges experienced in the first two days, the Electoral Commission (EC) extended the exercise to May 29, 2024, to offer opportunities for all qualified voters to register.

The Atiwa West DCE said this in an interview with Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH after he embarked on a monitoring exercise at various registration centers in the area.

Atiwa West Constituency since the beginning of the registration exercise on May 7 to May 27, 2024, has registered more than 1,000 new voters.

Hundreds Of Individuals Participate In The Aristocrats Fraternity’s Annual Health Walk Exercise

Hundreds of individuals participated in the Aristocrats Fraternity’s annual health walk exercise on Saturday, May 25, 2024. The event, now in its third edition, commenced at the Ayi Mensah toll booth and concluded at the Peaduase Lodge.

Following the walk, Berima Amoako Darko, a Patron of the Aristocrats Fraternity and the Suhum Akyempemhene, emphasized the importance of regular physical activity for maintaining good health and longevity. He stressed the significance of prioritizing health above all else.

The Aristocrats Confraternity, a nonpartisan organization comprising individuals from various backgrounds, including traditional leaders, politicians, businessmen, and healthcare professionals, aims to give back to society and promote positive change.

As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, the Suhum Akyempemhene announced plans to collaborate with the Peace Council, Civil Society Organizations, and the Local Council of Churches to advocate for peace and ensure transparent, free, and fair elections.

Professor Dr. Emmanuel Apem Darko, the CEO of the Kwayisi Christian Herbal Clinic and a proud member of the fraternity, advised the public to engage in at least 30 minutes of exercise weekly, citing its numerous health benefits such as reducing sugar levels, cholesterol, and stabilizing blood pressure.

Founder and Chairman of the Aristocrat Fraternity, Ohene Danqua Agyeman Duah, highlighted the importance of prioritizing health, especially for individuals with busy schedules.

He underscored the organization’s commitment to supporting community development, particularly in the Eastern Region where their headquarters is located in Koforidua.

The event was attended by dignitaries such as former Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, Ransford Agyapong, Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ebenezer Tetteh, and Mr. Afasi Komla, the African Director of Engage Africa.

Ohene Danqua Agyeman Duah expressed gratitude to all participants for their support and contribution to the success of the mega health walk.

Akuapem North: NPP Women’s Wing Educates Constituents On Voter Registration Exercise

The Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akuapem North Constituency of the Eastern Region embarked on a community engagement to educate the constituents about the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Speaking to Kingdom News, the Woman Organizer for the Constituency, Linda Darkwa who spearheaded the move noted that they saw the importance of one acquiring the voter Identification Card; hence took it upon themselves to enter every home, marketplace, ghetto, and lorry station to educate those who have not registered to ensure they get involved to see them exercise their franchise come December 7, 2024, general elections.

Akuapem North has targeted to register about 3,000 new voters, and they have done over 2000 out of the expected figure in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise which will end on May 29, 2024.

Linda Darkwa and her team used the opportunity and campaign for both Sammi Awuku, the Parliamentary Candidate for Akuapem North Constituency, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the leader and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, and urged the residents of the area especially the new voters to vote for them amid retaining the NPP in power.

According to her, Sammi Awuku, without a doubt has proven himself that when the good people of Akuapem North allow him to become the Member of Parliament of the constituency they will swim in developmental projects, which will go a long way to benefit the youth.

The Akuapem North NPP Woman’s Organizer was speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH about how the limited voter registration exercise in the area.

She then added that they want the NPP to retain power in 2025 and continue developing and transforming Ghana; hence embarking on such an exercise to encourage those who have not registered yet to and register to be able to make the right decision in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

“Where President Akufo Addo and his Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has raised Ghana to, NPP government deserved continuation,” Some members of the women’s wing said.

They continue “Many years ago, parents used to sell their clothes before they could send their wards to Senior Secondary School but with the implementation of the Free Senior High education by the NPP government today Children are schooling for free without paying a penny and the burden of the parents is no more.

President Akufo Addo and Bawumia have done a lot in the past 7 years for the country which is why they saw the need to flood the various communities in the Constituency to propagate the good works of the NPP government to them to go and register and vote NPP again in 2024 general elections to do more for Ghana,” they stressed.

Limited Voter Registration: Ghanaian Youth Urge To Partake To Save Free SHS Policy

The New Patriotic Party’s Secretary for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Kodua Boateng has entreated Ghanaian youth who have turned 18 years to involve themselves in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise to save the free Senior High School Education policy.

According to him, the behavior of members of the National Democratic Congregation (NDC) indicates that when they return to power after the 2024 elections they will abolish the free SHS policy that has benefited many Ghanaian youth.

For this reason, he suggested the youth get their names registered to vote massively for the NPP on December 7 to help save the free Senior High School for the future generation.

Samuel Boateng defended that it is only the NPP government who introduces programs and policies that help the youth to live their dreams.

“The youth who have turned 18 years and above and are enjoying the Free SHS education are the beneficiaries of the free maternal healthcare program implemented by former President John Agyekum Kufour; hence they should take this registration seriously and help maintain NPP in power,” he mentioned.

The Akuapem North Constituency Secretary made the statement in an interview with Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH.

He noted that as far as the limited voter registration exercise in the area is concern it has been successful without any challenges.

He revealed that the Akuapem North Constituency has registered over 2000 new voters.

Both the NDC and NPP executives in the Akuapem North are impressed with how the registration exercise is going on and there haven’t been any complaints, he said further.

Disunity Has Defunct Many Associations In The Country…Madam Owusu

Chairperson of the ‘Kyerɛ Wo Dɔ Fun Club’ to wit ‘Show Your Love’, Charlotte Owusu has expressed her concern about the defunct of many associations in the various communities, which she attributed it to disunity among members.

She however noted the foundation of every association depends on love and oneness among members to help in its functioning.

Madam Owusu who is the Chairperson of the Effiduase-based association located in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region thus caution against the behavior and indicated that it leads to collapsing.

She was speaking at the official launching of the association at Effiduase in Koforidua where she underscored the relevance of unity and togetherness in every aspect of human lives.

Highlighting the association’s vision she added “Our key objective of forming Kyerɛ Wo Dɔ Fun Club is to give back to society, especially the street children, prisoners, and the school children whose parents have died.”

“Most of these schoolchildren who have lost their parents wore torn uniforms to school and we are going to sow about 50 school uniforms, visit their schools, and give it to them to at least put a smile on their faces.

Again, we will go to the Effiduase Prisons to donate food items to support our brothers who are there to feel relieved because most of the inmates are innocent, and since we cannot grant them bail this is what we can also do to help them,” noted the Chairperson.

The Assembly Woman for Effiduase Oguaa Electoral Area, Anita Gyedu who graces the launching commended the leaders of Kyerɛ Wo Dɔ Fun Club for instituting such association that would go a long way to transform the lives of the people in the area.

Speaking to Kingdom News’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH Anita Gyedu advised the marriage ones in the association to tred cautious to ensure their activities causes no problems in their marital homes but rather live an examplary lifestyle for the young ones to emulate.

She also entreated them to perform their responsibilities and remain committed to their husbands as expected for peace to prevail in their homes.

Doing so will help the growth of their various association because nobody will speak negatively against them and they will be able to achieve their aims, she stressed.

Some members of the association explained that their love and generosity for the vulnerable motivated them to join the association.

Green Ghana Day: Eastern Region To Plant 700,000 Seedlings

The Eastern Regional Manager for the Forestry Commission, Isaac Noble Eshun says, the region is targeting planting 700,000 tree seedlings in support of the Green Ghana Day initiative.

Meanwhile, the entire country is expected to plant 10 million trees on June 7, 2024, to augment the already existing ones. Some of the trees expected to be planted include mahogany, sepale, and Ofram among others.

Mr. Eshun, speaking to KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH, disclosed that the commission has a shortage of economic trees such as mango, coconut, and avocado however they are working around the clock to get some on board before the dee day.

Noble Eshun commended Ghanaians for embracing the program and entreated them to get involved as done in the past to help them achieve its target.

Speaking further he noted that they have distributed 700,000 seedlings to all their offices in the Region i.e Begoro, Kyebi, Donkorkrom, Mpraeso, Somanya, Kade, Oda including the regional office at Koforidua Akwadum.

“So anyone who needs some of the seedlings can walk into the aforementioned offices and take some for planting,” he told Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH.

In his view, the fact that some Ghanaians have inculcated the habit of destroying the water bodies, lands, and forest reserves with their activities should not be a reason to demotivate others from helping the tree planting initiatives since it is for good.

The Okyeman Twafohene, Okatakyia Boakye Danquah has praised Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin for working hard to change the narrative of Okyeman and Eastern Region at large.

According to him, Osagyfo Amoatia Ofori Panin took over at the time when Okyeman and the Eastern Region were battling developmental issues.

During that time, the performance of Okyeman in the Basic Education Certificate Examination was appalling despite significant public investment, mentioning that this had its roots in the growing social crisis of truancy, the increase in school dropout rate, the surge of teenage pregnancy, and the spread of Human Immune Virus (HIV)

Okyeman Twafohene noted that to address this menace, Osagyefo Ofori Panin launched a successful advocacy for increased funding and rekindled the interest and inclusion of parents in their children’s education

Okatakyia Danquah stressed that measures being put in place by Okyehene have led to a rapid reduction in the school dropout rate, a reduction in the rate of teenage pregnancy, and a decrease in reported cases of HIV infections.

He recounted that under the distinguished able leadership of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, ten Basic Education Schools, named, the Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Schools were established in 10 different locations within Okyeman to complement the efforts of the government in the education sector.

Okatakyia Boakye Danquah made this known during the official launching of the 25th Golden Jubilee anniversary of Okyehene on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Ofori Panin Fie, Kyebi.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin who ascended the throne in October 1999 has had many infrastructure projects under his leadership.

Atiwa East: NPP Chairman Entreats Students To Partake In Voter Registration Exercise.

The Atiwa East Constituency Chairman for the New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region, Albert Nuamah admonished eligible students at the Senior High School (SHS) level to embrace the ongoing voter registration exercise.

He underscores the need for these eligible students who hail from Atiwa East but schools outside the area to return home and register to enable them to vote for the NPP in power come December 7, 2024, amid retaining power.

He mentioned that with the new voter registrar for Atiwa East, the NPP has targeted capturing students since their target is to vote against the opposition NDC party.

According to him, the youth of the country who have attained the age of 18 should take the exercise seriously to be able to partake in the upcoming 2024 general elections and maintain the NPP in power because they think about their well-being, hence all their policies and programs favor them.

Albert Nuamah then urged the residents of Atiwa East who lived outside the town to return home and register because they wanted to move away from the District to the Municipal and that would depend on the number of people that get registered.

Despite calling on the students and residents to come and register their names, he is optimistic that at the end of the exercise, they will meet their target by registering over 70% of the new voters.

For his part, the Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress in Atiwa East Constituency, Sumaila Ahmed was impressed with the exercise, adding that there haven’t been any challenges since its commencement.

Sumaila Ahmed also expressed his excitement about the number of registrants so far and believes that they will vote for NDC to come and save the country from economic hardship.

The two were speaking to Kingdom FM’s KONTIHEN KOFI OBOH when they embarked on a monitoring exercise at the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise in the area.

However, the Atiwa East District Officer for the Electoral Commission, Sulemana Sayibu Alhassan indicated that they have recorded five challenges which are not minor and they are yet to discuss with the political parties to see how best they can do to solve the issues.

He used the opportunity to entreat those who had not registered to do so before the exercise ended in June.
