The Abakomasemhene of Asokore in the New Juaben Traditional Council of the Eastern Region, Nana Adjabeng Boateng, together with his cabinet, has picked up a nomination form for Samuel Osei Sarkodie, popularly known as SOS, to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Eastern Regional Youth Organizer position.

The New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region opened nominations on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, for persons willing to serve the party at the regional level for the next four years.

Speaking to journalists, Nana Adjabeng Boateng said SOS has served and contributed immensely to the development of the New Juaben Traditional Area, earning praise from the late Omanhene, Daasebre Oti Boateng.

He indicated that when the NPP Eastern Regional Youth Organizer position became vacant, the traditional leaders of Asokore decided to pick up the nomination form for SOS in appreciation of his role in championing infrastructure projects in Asokore.

He added that they believe their son, SOS, will emerge victorious because he has respect for everyone in the region.

Nana Boateng further stated that it is only in Ghana that chiefs do not engage in active politics, adding that it was not so in the past and that the situation is very disturbing.

“The indisciplined behavior among some people has caused Chiefs to be sidelined from the partisan politics; other than that, there’s nothing wrong with them engaging in politics,” said Asokore Abakomasehene.

“However, some of the Chiefs are hiding behind politicians to destroy other Chiefs’ towns to gain favor from them to develop their community, and it is very uncalled for,” he added.

The Asokore Abakomasehene used the opportunity to appeal to NPP delegates in the Eastern Region to vote for SOS, saying he is the only candidate who can lead the youth wing in the region and help the party recapture power in 2028.

After presenting the nomination form to Samuel Osei Sarkodie (SOS) at his residence in Asokore Kumaa, SOS thanked the Asokore Abakomasehene and his entourage for the gesture.

He said he had been preparing to pick up the nomination form himself to contest the Youth Organizer position in the region but was surprised that the Asokore Nanaanom had already done so on his behalf.

SOS assured the Asokore traditional leaders that he would not disappoint them if elected as the Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party.

“I am poised to unite the aggrieved members who have pathways with our party and bring them on board and work them to help us win the 2028 election if I become the next Youth Organizer of the region,” he noted.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu Addo, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, picked up his nomination form at the party’s office in Koforidua to seek re-election.

According to him, he will visit all the newly elected executives in the constituencies to appeal to them to give him another four-year mandate to continue serving the party in the region.

He noted that in the 2024 election, the NPP in the Eastern Region, under his leadership, worked hard to secure 23 out of the 33 parliamentary seats in the region, compared to other regions.

Mr. Konadu stated that during his first four years in office as the regional chairman, he served party members with truth, respect, and humility, helping the NPP secure more votes in both the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024 while other regions struggled.

He therefore appealed to delegates in the Eastern Region to consider his performance over the past four years and renew his mandate to enable him to continue his work for the party.

The aspiring Women’s Organizer for the region, Regina Bempong, who also serves as the immediate past Women’s Organizer of the New Juaben South Constituency, said she is ready to serve as the next Women’s Organizer for the region.

“Currently, the NPP in the Eastern Region needs a strong and energetic young woman who can touch base and mobilize the youth, the past executives, and the old members to come together and form a formidable team to clinch power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028, and I possess such qualities to do that work for the NPP,” she revealed.

Madam Bempong made the remarks after picking up her nomination form for the Women’s Organizer position in the Eastern Region.

She humbly appealed to the delegates to elect her as the next Women’s Organizer for the region.

The Abuakwa North Education Directorate in the Eastern Region has held its Member of Parliament’s maiden edition of the reading festival competition for basic schools in the area under the theme: ” Read To Grow: Feed Your Future Self”.

The programme aimed to shape the minds of the pupils and enhance their reading skills, enabling them to become proficient readers and excel in their exams.

Speaking to Journalists, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frimpong, who is well known in the political space as Chief Buffalo and the main architect of the reading festival competition, said the outcome of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results wasn’t encouraging at all, hence the programme.

“If the students can read well, it helps them to understand the questions and answer them well, enabling them to secure good grades; therefore, I would partner with both the parents and teachers in the Abuakwa North Municipality to come up with solutions to address the low performance of the students in the subsequent exams,” he indicated.

Chief Buffalo added that the welfare of the teachers in Abuakwa North is paramount to him; as a result, in two weeks, he would reward the deserving teachers in his constituency who are positively impacting the lives of the learners to appreciate their efforts.

The  CRIG M/A JHS crowned the ultimate winners of the JHS competition.

Speaking on behalf of the school,  Oppong Fosua Gifty noted that their victory didn’t come on a silver platter; rather, they worked hard to secure it.

She sent a word of caution to their sister schools to get well prepared for next year’s competition because they are going to give them a tough time to retain the title.

Furthermore, the Director of Education for the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, Grace Adza-Awude, mentioned that reading is the heart of quality education.

“It is through reading that the learners acquire knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, broaden their perspective, and build the confidence needed to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society,” she stated.

She said the theme for the program actively reminds us that every page a child reads is an investment in his or her future.

Madam Adza-Awude stressed that reading equipped learners with the tools to dream, discover, innovate, and become responsible leaders for tomorrow.

On behalf of the management of the Abuakwa North Education Directorate, Grace Adza-Awude thanked her Member of Parliament, Nana Kwame Addo Frimpong, for such an initiative to help improve the reading skills of the schoolchildren in the Municipality.

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, declared Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as National Sanitation Days.

All 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country participated in this exercise to clean up their environments.

The two-day national sanitation exercise aimed to prevent flooding and communicable diseases in our various communities, and the Atiwa East District Assembly was not exempted.

Speaking to Journalists during the cleanup exercise in Anyinam and its enclaves, the District Chief Executive of the Atiwa East District Assembly of the Eastern Region, Ernest Owusu Ntim, commended President John Dramani Mahama for initiating this initiative to reduce flooding in some parts of the country during the rainy season.

He emphatically stated that President Mahama can’t be blamed for the Accra flooding incident because he wasn’t there when people were illegally putting up structures on waterways.

Ernest Ntim further revealed that President Mahama has done a great job in putting in place measures to curb the flooding situation in Accra and indicated that it is not every President who would be courageous enough to demolish buildings in wetlands, particularly in Accra, but President John Mahama has done that to avoid tragedy in the future.

“The move by President Mahama’s administration to embark on a demolition exercise would serve as a deterrent to other people from purchasing waterways lands for their projects,” he mentioned.

Ernest Owusu Ntim used the occasion to advise all the MMDCEs in Ghana to be extra vigilant when approving a building permit for anyone for development, because sometimes the physical planners and engineers can deceive them to approve a building permit at the wrong location, most especially in the wetlands.

The Environmental Officer of the Assembly, Bernard Quarshie, added that most of the communicable diseases recorded in the hospital are caused by human activity that could have been prevented.

According to him, if they visited homes and advised people to clean their environment and keep their rubbish in a safer place, they wouldn’t listen to us, and as a result, filth has engulfed the country.

“If the citizens of the country had taken sanitation exercises seriously and stopped dumping refuse inside gutters, the country wouldn’t have witnessed flooding that claimed lives, destroyed properties, and rendered others homeless,” he stated.

Bernard Quarshie lauded Ernest Owusu Ntim, the DCE of the area, for setting up a sanitation task force to ensure people keep both their homes and workplaces clean to avoid communicable diseases or flooding in Atiwa East.

The Office of the Suhum Mankrado Ankobeahemaa  (OSMAH) Foundation has donated sanitary pads and toothpaste to the Basic Schools in the Suhum Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region.

According to the Foundation, they realized that most of the young girls fall victim to the pragia drivers and get them pregnant as a result of their inability to afford sanitary pads during their menstrual period, hence the pads distribution.

He added that they are doing this to curb teenage pregnancy among the girl child in the Suhum Municipality.

OSMAH Foundation used the opportunity to educate them on how to keep themselves clean when menstruating.

In her address, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Nana Akosua Korang Larbi urged the female students to be hardworking, self-disciplined, pay attention to their education, and refrain from any activity that may destroy their future.

She stated that in this 21st century, no man would like to marry a lady who doesn’t have the aforementioned qualities which is why every school-going girl child needs to take care of herself at this stage until they achieve their academic goals and gets a job before getting married.

The Suhum Mankrado Ankobeahemaa further said that as a girl child, if you allow the young boys to impregnate you,  they will continue schooling to ruin your life, she advised them to stay away from intimacy at a younger age to become prominent people in society.

Adding to the development, the Suhumhemaa, Nana Arko Bensua said that it really pains her when she sees these young single mothers struggling on the streets to get money to feed their kids.

A situation she described as very disgusting, and she wouldn’t want to see any of the female students in Suhum go through such an experience.

She also admonished them to listen to their parent’s advice, stay away from dating at a tender age, and focus on their education to better their future because these young men don’t have anything to offer them other than to get them pregnant and kill their dreams of becoming prominent people in the country.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent Chairman for the Atiwa East Constituency in the Eastern Region, Albert Nuamah, has been given a second term to lead the party into the 2028 elections.

He won the just-ended NPP constituency executive election with 597 votes, as opposed to his opponent, Kafui Amegah, who received 54 votes, thereby enabling him to continue serving as Chairman of the constituency for the next four years.

Speaking to journalists after securing an overwhelming victory, Mr. Nuamah noted that he was optimistic that the Atiwa East NPP delegates would honour him because he worked for the party during his first term in office.

He mentioned that he and his newly elected executives would work hand in hand with those who could not win to ensure that their party clinches power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028.

For his part, the newly elected Youth Organizer of the constituency, Andrews Agyapong, showed his heartfelt appreciation to the Member of Parliament of the area, Abena Osei Asare, for playing her role as a mother to all and not being biased against any of the aspirants before, during, and after the election.

Mr. Agyapong mentioned that every political party needs a strong youth wing to win power, which is why the Atiwa East NPP delegates have had confidence in him and given him the mantle to lead them into the 2028 election because of the hardworking skills he has exhibited over the past years of serving the party with truth and respect.

The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Abena Osei Asare, disregarded the NDC’s ‘Reset Ghana Agenda’ claim of changing the fortunes of the country since it assumed office in 2025.

According to her, the NDC can only take pride in the nkoko nkintikiti and the ‘struggling’ 24-hour economy policy initiatives as achievements.

Madam Osei Asare stated that they promised Ghanaians free Senior High School and delivered it in September 2017.

“We worked hard to transform Ghana in the past 8 years, and even in the opposition, we are still working to keep the government on its toes to do the needful, which is why Ghanaians are calling on us to come and rescue them in 2028,” she said.

The Odikro of Nanapa, Baffuor Rockson Akwei Asamoah I, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, cut the sod for the construction of a  5-unit teachers’ bungalow for the community.

He was joined by the District Chief Executive for Atiwa East District Assembly, Ernest Owusu Ntim, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lutos Group Limited, Thomas Larbi, for the sod-cutting ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Nanapa community, Ernest Owusu Ntim mentioned that though Atiwa East is well known as one of the mining District Assemblies in the country, the area is not benefiting from these activities.

“So when I assumed office as District Chief Executive of the Assembly, I went round for community visitation to find out the projects the miners have done for the communities in which they operate, but I didn’t see a single project the mining companies have done for them,” he said.

Mr. Ntim stated that upon consultation, he was told the community needed a teacher’s bungalow to accommodate teachers to enhance teaching duties.

According to the DCE, after listening to their plight, he sat down with the mining companies that operate in the Nanapa community to leave a legacy in the area, hence agreeing to construct the teachers’ bungalow for them.

The project is expected to be completed within 3-4 months.

The Atiwa East DCE vowed to ensure that all the mining companies within his jurisdiction construct at least one project for the area to enable them to benefit from the gold extract.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lotus Group Limited (mining company), Thomas Larbi, who funded the project, said his company has done a lot of infrastructure projects in Nanapa, as well as supporting education.

He urged mining companies across the country to at least do a project for the community in which they operate to become a legacy.

On his part, the Odikro of Nanapa community, Baffuor Rockson Akwei Asamoah I, commended Ernest Owusu Ntim and Thomas Larbi for listening to their cry and breaking ground for the commencement of the project.

He further revealed that the lack of a teachers’ bungalow in the community has led many teachers to vacate the community due to high transport fares and the poor nature of the roads.

Baffuor Akwei Asamoah believes that when this project is completed, the teachers will stay and carry out their obligations accordingly.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Richpot Group of Companies, affectionately known as ‘Aduro,’ has advised Ghanaian youth to embrace hard work to better their lives in the future.

He noted that all the successful people we see, both at home and abroad, didn’t achieve their current status overnight; rather, they worked hard for it.

Aduro mentioned this at Akyem Kwabeng during a football friendly match between Richpot FC and Sentence FC.

The game aimed at bringing the youth together to contribute their quota towards the development of Akyem Kwabeng.

At the end of the community’s Football friendly game, Richpot FC defeated Sentence FC by a lone goal.

The CEO of the Richpot Group of Companies added that Akyem Kwabeng is known as a mining community; therefore, he used the opportunity to appeal to the government to put in place measures to enhance mining activities in the area to enable the youth to find jobs and get something to feed their families.

He indicated that if the youth are jobless, most of them engage in social vices, which is not healthy for the country’s development.

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has expressed sympathy for the victims of the Accra flooding accident that occurred in June 2026.

The heavy downpour that shocked the country claimed lives and property and left others homeless.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin attributed the situation to indisciplined behavior among some citizens of the country who dumped refuse inside the gutters.

Okyenhene indicated that if care is not taken, the same incident could happen to anyone across the country if we don’t stop such an act.

The Okyenmanwura mentioned these during the celebration of the Akyem Abuakwa State Ohum Festival, which was observed under the theme:” Rejuvenating Our Customs For Sustainability And Nature Connection” at Ofori Panin, Kyebi on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

He added that the government alone cannot monitor everywhere to ensure that people clean their environment; therefore, he advised the general public to prioritize sanitation to avoid such occurrences in the near future.

On his part, the Local Government Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, mentioned that plans are far advanced to add traditional leaders (Chiefs and Queen Mothers), Assembly Members, and Members of Parliament to the governance to contribute ideas to running the affairs of the country.

He revealed that, should the aforementioned people have been included in governance, maybe the country wouldn’t have witnessed the Accra flooding incident.

Ahmed Ibrahim noted that President John Dramani Mahama is deeply worried about the situation, and highlighted that measures have been put in place to support the victims

The Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) has donated GH¢20,000 in cash, GH¢1,000 worth of airtime, assorted drinks, and hampers to the Akyem Tafo Traditional Council in support of the 2026 Ohum Kan Festival.

This gesture forms part of the Foundation’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards the celebration of the festival.

Speaking to Journalists, Ransford Gyan, the Area Sales Manager for Eastern, Oti, and Volta Regions respectively, highlighted the long-standing strong relationship between MTN Ghana and the Akyem Tafo Traditional Council.

“We have seen how deeply the Ohum Kan Festival reflects the identity, heritage, and aspirations of the Tafo people, and we are proud to be associated with a celebration that continues to preserve culture while opening new doors of opportunity,” he added.

He indicated that festivals like Ohum reflect the same spirit as they connect with people, preserve our heritage, and create opportunities for transport operators, food vendors, accommodation providers, artisans, traders, and many other small businesses.
