New Year: Kwame Appiah Kodua Feeds More Than 1,000 Widows And Aged

The Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North constituency in Eastern Region, Kwame Appiah Kodua, has fed 1,200 people in his constituency amid the New Year.

The 1,200 beneficiaries comprised the aged persons, widows, and widowers in his constituency, to let them know how valuable they are to him as their MP.

Items distributed included 5kg bags of rice, cooking oil, and sardines.

Speaking to journalists, the MP said, in most cases, political parties donate items to party delegates and leave out main grassroots supporters who contributed massively to the party victory, a situation which often brings bitterness among community members.

He explained that decision to include aged persons, widows, and widowers was to put smiles on their faces as the year begins.

According to Appiah Kodua, the abysmal performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections has humbled party leadership, indicating that lessons have been learnt from defeat.

He stated that going forward, items will not be distributed to only party members to avoid generating resentment, but will rather include community members to appreciate their efforts toward party success, even though the party lost the 2024 elections to main its main contender, the National Democratic Congress.

He added that measures are being put in place to increase number of beneficiaries in subsequent years so that more people can benefit from this initiative, while praying that God will bless, heal, and protect the beneficiaries so they may live long.

Some beneficiaries praised the MP for his kind gesture, stating that this was the first time a Member of Parliament for the constituency had recognised and shown them love.

They prayed for God’s grace, blessings, and protection upon his life to enable him do more for them in years ahead.

2026: Indication Of Dollar Ratio To Cedis Demonstrate Ghana’s Prosperity

The General Overseer of the Leader’s Light International Church, Apostle Dr. Samuel Kofi Dadzie, has urged the general public to entrust their hope in God as the country is expected to receive good news in 2026.

He said President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has laid down a solid foundation to enhance the country’s economy.

According to Apostle Dr. Kofi Dadzie, the interest rate on loans has declined drastically from 40% to 20% and the cedi’s appreciation against the United States dollar ratio in December 2025,  saying that it took a visionary leader to do that for its citizens.

He described the incumbent government’s performance as unprecedented and mind-blowing.

“All these indications in December 2025 demonstrated that  Ghana will prosper in 2026 and Ghanaians will jubilate,” he expressed.

“Many Ghanaians celebrated the 2025 Christmas festive season with joy, and once they are somewhat financially stable, the economy also grows, and it generates income for the country,” he stated.

He made these remarks during the 31st crossover service at the Church Headquarters in Osabene, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

CUE…APOSTLE DR. SAMUEL KOFI DADZIE.

Apostle Dr. Samuel Dadzie mentioned that for the first time in history, many people flocked to various business centers across the country, especially Accra and Kumasi, to purchase gifts for Christmas, causing heavy traffic due to the government’s measures aimed at boosting the economy.

“I’m not a National Democratic Congress member, but it is about time Ghanaians should stop the partisan politics and appreciate the good works of any government in power when performing extremely well to change the fortunes of the nation,” he set the record straight.

Apostle Dr Kofi Dadzie stated that many Ghanaians, including himself, renowned men of God, and even some high-profile members of the New Patriotic Party, are impressed with how President John Mahama and his NDC government are running the country.

He believes that if the managers of the economy continue like this, he wouldn’t be surprised to see Ghana lending money to other countries by 2030.

Anglican Rev. Launches 15th Book: Urges Ghanaians To Exercise Restraint In Life

The Parish Priest of All Saints Anglican Church in Suhum, Eastern Region, Rev. Canon Charles Lawrence Kwabena Amankwah, launched his 15th book, entitled Essentials of Making Haste Slowly, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at church premises in Suhum.

The book discusses the importance of taking time to make life meaningful and shape one’s future for the better.

Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, Rev. Charles Amankwah admonished Ghanaians, especially the youth, not to engage in any form of activity that will fetch quick money and cause them to lose their lives prematurely.

He said many people made hasty decisions, and today those decisions are fighting them back, but if they had exercised restraint and waited for God’s appointed time to bless and honor them, they would not have been suffering or died at a younger age.

“We don’t rush in life, and stating that everybody has two days to live and that is, the day you’re born and the day you will die, which is why we must appreciate what God has given us to enable us to live long instead of passing a short way to become rich,” he said.

Chairperson for the programme, Professor Linda Eva Amoah, Associate Professor of the Immunology Department at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, said that in the modern world, many people are in a hurry to make wealth without thinking about the risks involved.

“The Essentials of Making Haste Slowly book launch is timely, because it is reminding us to be careful about the steps we embark on today so that it doesn’t affect our future and become useful to our various communities and impact more people’s lives,” she mentioned.

Professor Eva Amoah then advised the youth of the country to work hard and earn genuine money instead of rushing for quick wealth and shortening their precious lives.

Rev. Charles Kwabena Amankwah dedicated a book to the Anglican Bishop of Koforidua Diocese, Right Rev, Felix Annancy, and two others for their guidance and support.

Rt. Rev. Felix Annancy said he played a major role in the completion of the book and thanked Rev. Canon Amankwah for honoring him while he was alive to witness a beautiful day.

“If someone does something for you and you appreciate their efforts and honor them while they are alive, they feel loved, and institutions in Ghana must emulate it,” he said.

The 51-year-old Kudjo Adukpo, according to him, has served the Okyeman community for more than two decades with humility and integrity, which is why the Nanaanom of Akyem Kukurantumi recognizes his efforts and contributions toward the community’s growth and development, thus honoring him.

The Kukurantumihene, Daasebre Boamah Darko II, in his speech urged him to give the needed respect to every Chief in Adonten Division, and in doing so, they will also guide and help him succeed during his reign as Kukurantumi Sanaahene.

He added that no matter what, not everybody will love him because he [Daasebre Boamah Darko II], some people hate him, and it is part of the Chieftaincy issues, so, therefore, he shouldn’t respond to anything he will hear but rather remain focused and discharge his duties responsibly to transform the area.

The Effiduase Kuasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, who graced the event, Katakyia Opoku Ware, in his address, admonished Nana Adukpo to heed the advice given to him by Daasebre Boamah Darko II and his cabinet to help him succeed.

As part of the Christmas festivities, the Member of Parliament for the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, donated free fuel to over 500 commercial drivers in the area, with each driver receiving two gallons of fuel.

This initiative forms part of the MP’s social corporate responsibility to give back to his constituents who supported him in securing victory in the 2024 election and becoming their legislator.

Protozoa, as he is affectionately called in the political domain, said drivers play an important role in nation-building and deserve to be rewarded.

Mr Asiedu Bekoe described drivers as the national security personnel of the country. He explained that when bad people come to town, it is the drivers who are often the first to identify them and get them arrested, which is why, as a country, they must be treated with the needed respect to encourage them to continue assisting various security agencies to combat crime.

“As their Member of Parliament, this is what I can also do to show my heartfelt appreciation to them in this Christmas season for contributing immensely toward the growth and development of the country, especially the Suhum constituency,” he said.

added that with the free fuel, when drivers see the aged who do not have money to pay their lorry fare, they can also take them to their destinations to show them love.

“I remain resolutely focused on serving Suhumman with truth and integrity so that together we can build the Suhum we want by championing infrastructure projects in the area,” he opined.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at the Suhum taxi rank station, through Kwaku Mensah, on behalf of the beneficiary drivers, extended their gratitude to Protozoa for not celebrating Christmas with his family and NPP members alone, but rather recognising the efforts of the drivers in the constituency and giving them two gallons of fuel for free, indicating that the gesture would help them in many ways.

Speaking to journalists after the donation, the Territory Sales Controller of the MTN Ghana Foundation at the Koforidua office, Ebenezer Okaikoi-Tetteh, said this was the 14th edition of the baby hamper donation exercise since its inception in 2011, stressing that many mothers have benefited from the programme.

The Fanteakwa South constituency has 84 branches, and the NDC has over 800 executives in those branches.

Every branch executive member went home with 5kg of rice, cooking oil, and mackerel fish.

He thanked Mercy Korang, the District Chief Executive of the Fanteakwa South District Assembly, and Lawyer Twum Berima, the Managing Director for SIC Life, for their support in putting smiles on the faces of their hardworking branch executives.

Koforidua Residents Benefit From Free Health Screening

The Department of Community Development organized a free health screening for residents of Koforidua.

Many residents have benefited from the program since its inception in 2021.

This year’s screening was held at the Social Welfare Center in Srodae.

Speaking to a cross-section of journalists, Patience Boadiwaa Gyasi, Programs Officer of the Department of Community Development, said this initiative is meant to show the community that the department cares about their health.

She indicated that the program has become a permanent fixture, allowing people to have their bodies screened for free.

She explained that many people are dying because they do not pay much attention to their health status. The initiative was therefore instituted to provide workers who lack time to visit health facilities with the opportunity to undergo free check-ups, enabling them to assess their health status and stay safe.

“This year we included cervical cancer screening in it because we have realized that cervical cancer is sending many women to their early graves and is very disgusting,” she stated.

Mrs. Boadiwaa Gyasi further noted that men were also considered, with prostate cancer screening provided. She emphasized that if someone is diagnosed, they would be referred to the hospital for quick treatment, since early detection is the best way to treat the disease and live healthier.

She thanked the residents for attending the program in large numbers and urged the general public to take their health issues seriously, stressing that health is wealth.

Some beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the Department of Community Development for their kind gesture.
