The Chief of Akyem Afiesa of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, Nana Agyeman Dua Okumanin II, has installed three Sub-Chiefs, namely, Sompahene, Domfrehene, and Mbabawaahemaa, expected to help him champion infrastructure projects in the area.

The three newly installed Sub-Chiefs are young and energetic who expressed commitment to working assiduously to support Nana Dua Okumanin to attract investors to the development of Afiesaman.

Speaking to Journalists at Afiesa Ahenfie on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Nana Agyeman Okumanin underscores the importance of installing these trio to occupy such positions in playing instrumental roles towards the development of the community.

The traditional leader mentioned that Afiesaman is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, however poor lacks road network is retarding their progress.

Otafirgya, as he is affectionately called, revealed that during the eight-year tenure under the Akufo-Addo erstwhile New Patriotic Party administration, several attempts were made to get them fixed, but it proved futile.

“When it is 8:00 PM, you find it difficult to get a car from Kyebi to the community, and in the morning too, the schoolchildren sometimes have to walk to School because cars are scarce due to the nature of our road network,” said Afiesahene.

Nana Agyeman Dua Okumanin II used the opportunity and called on President John Dramani Mahama and his Roads Minister, Kwame Agbodza to come to their aid and get these roads fixed as they were capable of enabling schoolchildren to report to school on time and have sound minds to study.

He advised the schoolchildren to humble themselves before their Senior Chiefs and serve Afiesaman with respect and dignity so that together they can work in a harmonious way to develop the community.

One of the newly installed Sub-Chiefs, Mbabawaahemaa, Nana Asabea Nuamah, said the development and progress of women in the community is dear to her heart, and she will put in place measures to empower them to become self-reliant and help contribute meaningfully to the success of Afiesaman.

“Going to School is very essential to mankind but if you can’t go to school all hope is not lost, you can venture into artisanal skills to better your life and you would become the most successful person in the future because currently those who run their own businesses have a lot of money to take care of themselves and their families,” she observed.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ensuro Drinking Water, Edmond Agyapong, has presented a brand-new, unregistered Voxy vehicle to Apostle Dr. Samuel Kofi Dadzie, the founder of Leaders Light International Church.

He also donated an unspecified amount of money to the Man of God for the vehicle registration.

However, in a gesture of appreciating hard work, the founder gives out the gift to one of his long-serving pastors who has served with dedication and commitment.

Speaking to Kontihen Kofi Oboh, the General Overseer of the church, Apostle Dr. Samuel Kofi Dadzie revealed that the gesture of the CEO for Ensuro Drinking Water was a fulfillment of a promise he made to him some years ago.

The General Overseer explained that his reason to hand out the donated vehicle to Apostle Samuel Kofi Anane, stemmed from his respect, humility, faithfulness, and loyalty of years of service to help the church’s sustainability.

“For this reason, I said to myself that if Ensuro, as he is popularly called, buys me a car, I will hand it over to Apostle Kofi Anane for him to know that I really appreciate him for not turning his back on me during difficult times,” he highlighted.

Apostle Dr. Kofi Dadzie added that if you’re a leader, prioritizing the well-being of your followers is essential, rather than living a luxury lifestyle while they are suffering.

“In doing so, it gives them joy, and they won’t regret serving you. Hence, handing over the brand-new, unregistered Voxy car to Apostle Samuel Anane for him to benefit from his labor in his old age,” he indicated.

The General Overseer of Leaders Light International Church made this known when Ensuro presented the car to him during their Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the church headquarters in Osabene, Eastern Region.

According to Apostle Dr. Kofi Dadzie, he has been doing this for years, and this is the fourth car he has given out.

He believes that this move will motivate other pastors in the church to continue working hard and help it grow, knowing that their turn may come one day.

“The Church is looking forward to building a house for him before going to retirement,” he revealed.

Apostle Dr. Kofi Dadzie used the occasion to implore the founders and leaders of other churches to emulate his example.

The Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Ghana, as part of its SME Accelerate initiative, has trained over 200 personnel from Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.

The gesture, the company noted, is to ensure the sustainability of their businesses.

The SMEs Business Clinic aimed to provide opportunities for SME operators to rebrand their products and manage their finances effectively, helping them avoid collapse.

The program was held at the Capital View Hotel, Koforidua, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, under the theme: “Setting Up Business For Growth.”

Speaking to journalists, Abubakari-Sidick Mohammed, the Senior Sales Manager of MTN Ghana responsible for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), noted that SMEs contribute about 80 percent to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to him, statistics also show that SMEs have created over 95 percent of jobs for Ghanaians, which underscores the need for the country to support such businesses to grow.

Mr. Sidick Mohammed entreated SME personnel who benefited from the two-day training program to establish proper websites to advertise their products and attract international communities to patronize them, emphasizing the importance of digital presence.

“So far, we have done the SMEs Clinic Business program at Volta, Ashanti, and Eastern regions respectively,” he indicated.

He further said “they have targeted three more regions to help them reposition themselves well in the market space so that they can continue creating jobs for Ghanaians to reduce the unemployment menace in the country,” he mentioned.

The elderly son of the late Highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, Calvin Kwadwo Fosu, says preserving and building upon their father’s legacy remains the family’s foremost priority.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Adjoa Silky on DL FM 106.9, Accra, during his birthday celebration, Calvin Fosu highlighted the late musician’s profound impact on Ghana and beyond.

“My late father did a lot through his musical career and deserves to be remembered and keep his legacy alive,” he said.

Calvin Fosu emphasized that Daddy Lumba positively impacted many lives with his artistry, and his children are working assiduously to project it.

He added that the children are united and committed to doing everything possible to uphold their father’s name.

Reflecting on their late father’s love, he noted that Daddy Lumba cared deeply for his children and put much effort into raising them well.

Calvin also disclosed that the family is working behind closed doors to mark the first anniversary of the music icon’s passing to further project his legacy.

He expressed gratitude to the general public for their unwavering support from the time of their father’s demise till date.

Denise Ama Saah Fosuh, the daughter of the late highlife musician, also described the loss as painful but thanked the many benevolent individuals who have stood by their family.

She reiterated their commitment to continue their father’s legacy.

Furthermore, Kwadwo Fosuh Junior, another son of Daddy Lumba, joined in by showing appreciation to Ghanaians for their unflinching support during the family’s difficult time.

The Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Akwatia, Eastern Region, Eugene Opoku-Acheampong, has debunked allegations claiming that after losing the 2025 by-election to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), their party has become defunct.

Following the death of late NPP Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi early in 2025, shortly after winning the 2024 Parliamentary elections, the party could not maintain seat.

In light of this defeat, many suggested that the NPP has lost its popularity in the constituency.

Reacting to this controversial discussion among members within the constituency, Mr. Opoku-Acheampong argued that if that were true, then there would not be any active political party in the area.

He made this revelation at a press conference held at the constituency party office in Akwatia on Monday, May 18, 2026, while accounting for their just-ended polling station executives’ election.

According to him, NPP remains strong and formidable in Akwatia and is poised to reclaim both the next Parliamentary and Presidential seats in 2028.

Mr.Opoku-Acheampong used the occasion to thank constituency and regional executives for their outstanding support during the electoral process.

Furthermore, Constituency Organizer of the party, Jones Awuku, added that looking at the number of people who showed interest in purchasing forms to contest the polling station executives’ election demonstrates attractiveness of the party.

He hinted that Dan Kofi Nyame, the aspiring Chairman of the constituency, single-handedly bought all forms for those contesting the electoral area coordinators’ election in the party, and this speaks volumes that NPP is returning to power in 2028.

On her part, the Women’s Organizer of the constituency, Mary Appiah, in an interview with Kontihen Kofi Oboh, entreated those who could not win to exercise restraint and continue serving the party because all hope is not lost.

She noted that in 2022, some of the winners today contested and lost, but they did not shun the party, and this indicates that those who also lost can become winners in 2030 with hard work and determination.

The Member of Parliament for Okere constituency in the Eastern Region, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, has commended the West African Examination Council for the approval of the new selection procedure for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.) graduates who are waiting for their results to go to Senior High School.

The Pens Down party is a program designed for the B.E.C.E., graduates in Okere where all the stakeholders come on board to use the occasion to advise them to stay away from things that would prevent them from going to SHS as they await their results and this is the maiden edition by Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth since he became the Member of Parliament for the Okere constituency in 2024.

Before the 2026 B.E.C.E., the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced that candidates would select their Senior High or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVE) Schools after their results are released and WAEC agreed.

The rationale behind this move was to ensure that every B.E.C.E graduate gets enrolled in either SHS or TVET School to avoid being denied an opportunity to further their second-cycle level education.

Speaking at the Pens Down Party for the 2026 B.E.C.E graduates in his constituency at Adukrom on Friday, May 15, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth described the new SHS or TVET School selection reform as good news for the schoolchildren to make the right choices of schools based on their results.

The Okere MP revealed that Technical Vocational Education and Training is a gateway to success in life, therefore, he admonished the Basic Education Certificate Examination graduates in his constituency to select TVET schools to better their future and ignore the mantra that says *’TVET is meant for the second people*’.

The Special Guest of Honor for the event, Nana Agyei Baffuor, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region on his part mentioned that, Okere over the past years has produced great men who have contributed a lot to Ghana’s development.

“Addo-Kenneth wants to protect the legacy hence gathering these young people here, dining with them, and encouraging them to prioritize education first to replace them in the future when they’re no more,” he noted.

Nana Agyei Baffuor entreated them to be cautious about friends when they go to SHS to avoid getting into trouble to enable them to complete School successfully and return home peacefully to their parents.

The Adukromhene, Ahunuabobrim Osuodomgya Otutu Ababio V also advised them, especially the young girls, to stay away from bad friends to avoid getting pregnant, to shut down their dreams of becoming prominent people in the future.

The Chief of Akyem Asafo of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, Barima Boampong Darkwaning II, has endorsed President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy market project.

The ultramodern market project is the first of its kind in Ghana, and it comes with many features such as a lorry park, a warehouse, a daycare centre, a women’s bank, a police station, a post for the Ghana National Fire Service, a restaurant, a sick bay, a clinic, and a pharmacy, among others.

Out of the 33 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Eastern Region, 25 assemblies were selected, including the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly.

During the handover of the site to the contractor to commence work within two weeks at Akyem Asafo on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Barima Boampong Darkwaning II thanked the President and Abuakwa South MCE, Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins, for bringing such a historic project to his community.

According to him, the project will bring relief to the townsfolk as it will create many job opportunities for them during and after its completion within 24 months.

“Already, my overlord, Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, has accepted it, and we will rally our support behind the contractor to complete the project within the given timeframe to boost the economic activities in Akyem Asafo as well as Abuakwa South,” he indicated.

The Abuakwa South MCE, Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins, disclosed that they will use 25% of every common fund the Assembly receives to facilitate the project.

“One of the major challenges confronting the Assembly is the heavy-duty trucks that normally park at the Apedwa, Bunso, and Asafo junctions, which cause a lot of accidents on the stretch, and it is very disturbing.

“As part of the 24-hour economy market project, the Abuakwa South Assembly is adding a Public-Private Partnership to construct a big parking lodge so that those trucks can park there compulsory to curb the road accidents in the area,” mentioned Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins.

The Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Ghana celebrated its 30th anniversary on Thursday, May 14, at the MTN House in Accra.

The colourful event brought together dignitaries, including the Minister of Communication, Samuel Nartey George, media personnel, and various department heads from MTN Ghana.

Speaking at the 30th anniversary media launch, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, commended the Ghana Government, particularly its clients, for their support over the past 30 years, which has made their stay in the country successful.

In his speech, he mentioned that they had invested billions of Ghana cedis to provide quality service to customers and ensure they have a stable network for their daily activities.

Blewett said education is one of their top priorities, and over the past three decades, the MTN Ghana Foundation has invested in Ghana’s education sector to help students access a serene learning environment and modern equipment for their studies.

According to him, in the next 10 years, AI will take over the world, and measures are far advanced to strengthen its network so that young people can use it to run their businesses effectively.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George noted that the government is committed to maintaining ties with MTN Ghana by ensuring stress-free and quality network services for Ghanaians.

He used the occasion to urge the management of MTN Ghana to improve its network, as many Ghanaians complain about unstable network services for their daily activities.

A situation that the Communication Minister described as very devastating.

Mr. Nartey again revealed that Ghana would soon be enrolled in 5G network services, and the government is considering giving MTN Ghana a slot as one of the beneficiary telecom companies in the country.

On behalf of the government, the minister congratulated MTN Ghana on its 30th anniversary celebration and its contribution to the growth and development of the country.

The Gyaasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Twumasi Dankwa, has criticised traditional leaders who participate in active partisan politics.

He acknowledged the vital role of chiefs in national development but swiftly referred to those involved in active politics as ‘weak-minded.’ 

Nana Twumasi Dankwa made this statement on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the government’s 24-hour economy market project at Agatha Market in Koforidua.

The event, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly, Ransford Owusu Boakye, was attended by Nanaanom of the New Juaben Traditional Area, residents, and market women.

The project, under the Ministry of Local Government, is expected to be completed within two years.

Speaking at the event, the Gyaasehene noted that the project would go a long way to significantly aid community development, as residents had long awaited a modern market.

He emphasized that it is the responsibility of chiefs to champion infrastructure projects for their people, irrespective of political affiliation.

Nana Twumasi Dankwa stated that any chief who involves themselves in active politics and opposes government projects demonstrates a “weak mindset.” 

“It is about time chiefs come together and embrace government projects that will transform their communities and set aside their political divisions,” he opined.

He reaffirmed the traditional area’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that will bring development to the people.

In his speech, the MCE, Ransford Owusu Boakye, stated that once completed, the project would enhance trading activities and create economic opportunities, particularly for women and youth within the municipality.

He further said that the 24-hour economy market, module two, is situated on a three-acre plot and will offer functional facilities for 25 districts.

The market will include lockable stores, a supermarket, food court, a stock bay, cold store, and retail spaces for traders.

Mr. Boakye added that the complex will also feature a clinic, pharmacy, daycare center, women’s bank, police and fire stations, and other amenities to serve women.

The world observes Mother’s Day on May 10 every year to recognize mothers for their unflinching sacrifices and contributions toward the development of their respective countries, and Ghana is no exception.

As part of this special occasion, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frimpong, popularly known in political circles as Chief Buffalo, organized a dinner for widows in Akyem Anyinam and Old Tafo, respectively, to let them know that they are not alone.

After dining with them, every widow who attended the event went home with a package and a token for transportation.

Chief Buffalo collaborated with the Breads and Bounty Foundation to put smiles on the faces of widows drawn from the aforementioned two communities in the constituency.

Speaking at the gathering, Addo Frimpong noted that politicians often focus on the youth and forget to take good care of widows and widowers in their various communities.

“Most of these people are encountering so many challenges in life and measures have to be taken to provide a little support to make them happy and feel that they are part of us,” he revealed.

Nana Ampaw Frimpong further stated that women in Abuakwa North contributed immensely to the success of securing the Parliamentary seat in the 2024 election.

He, therefore, reaffirmed his commitment to offering a helping hand to the women in Abuakwa North, particularly widows, to appreciate them for making him who he is today.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Breads and Bounty Foundation, Dorcia Addo Frimpong, suggested the need for a home that would provide comfort for the aged.

According to her, some people tag the aged in their families as the cause of their suffering in life, and due to that, they end up maltreating them based on accusations they know nothing about.

Mrs. Addo Frimpong added that when people reach old age, sickness can even cause them to behave differently, but it does not mean they are witches or wizards.

She believes that if an aged home is available, such persons can be brought there and taken care of when they face such challenges in their various homes, to give them peace of mind and help them live longer.
